Funny Names in modules/games...

when running the 1e Temple of Elemental Evil the party went into the first dungeon about four times before they found a secret door leading to an underground section where they explored their way repeatedly through the dark until they came upon the BBEG. They had been freaked out on finding this tougher level and fighting their way through to get to the BBEG but they burst out laughing when he said who he was. "The New Master." They didn't believe it was actually his name in the module until I covered up most of the text and showed them that was his name. It took them several forays to take him out after joining with him briefly and then betraying his men. By the end he had turned all his dead guards into zombies and bought a shrieker fungus with a lot of his treasure in his ongoing security measures to stop the invading adventurers. He was a great villain but I just wish I had stuck with his given name instead of the title Gygax gave him.

Interesting how a name can make such a huge difference...i once named the emperor Carl Franz in a non Germanic setting

I had to stop the game for at least half an hour once so my players could stop laughing. And all i did was mispronounce Spugnoir's name while running RttToEE. I can still cause a laughing fit to this day with a single mention of "The Black Potato."
