Game book cliches

Dr Awkward

First Post
In the first line of an introduction:

"This book you hold in your hands..."

Yerg. It's like the equivalent of that classic first line of almost every sci-fi movie trailer: "IN A WORLD..."

Also, a more tolerable cliche would be the myriad of disclaimers you always find in core books. You know, "This is just a game, you're not really a Time-Travelling Mutant Robot Ninja Zombie, please seek help if you feel otherwise" ...those types of things. Those can get pretty funny sometimes, though, so I let them slide.

What are your least/most favorites?

I don't know if anything particularly annoys me, but I like books that begin with some context, in the form of a little fiction or something.

I haven't read the last half-dozen introductions to WotC books I've gotten, but that's got more to do with their lack of helpfulness than any distaste I have for them.
