Game of Death

Next Game of Death

Hey all, I'm next on the list for running a GoD and I've been putting some thought into it. Unfortunately, for you guys, my real campaign has picked up unexpectedly and I've been DMing once or twice a week for the past month or so and spending time on that as opposed to my GoD.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I haven't forgotten about it and I'll get it going asap. Some of my comments on my game can be found on pages 5 and 6.

archer has magic arrows of course so that knocks off Prot from arrows. They regain their magic power as soon as they leave the field.

Archer has cohort to dispel any reverse arrow spells.

One problem with the archer character: if your bow gets sundered, you're SOL.

If I felt really threatened by such a character and I was playing a figher-type, I'd charge over and sunder the bow, then beat the archer silly.

Like you're limited to only having one bow...

Although you are right that archers have a lot to fear about being cornered. Flying is almost definitely in order, maybe flying invisibly.

Yeah, but that would be mutually exclusive with an anti magic field.

Perhaps you could buy a lot of magic arrows with special properties, focusing on ones that could slow down or stop enemies.

It all depends on the level of the GoD. For the tenth-level one, a really good character might be the cleric/arcane archer. It would mean that anti-magic wouldn't be feasible, though.

Well, you're not limited to having one bow -- but if your bow is sundered, then you'll only get off one shot in the round (drawing a new bow is at least an MEA) -- and if you don't move, then the fighter who just sundered your bow gets an AoO when you fire at him.

I wonder what special combat maneuver he could use with that AoO to really make you unhappy?

Don't get me wrong -- an anti-magic archer is a nasty-sounding character for the GoD, and it'd be real difficult for a spellcaster to deal with it. But a good tank, I think, could take out the archer without much problem.

Troll, its mentioned in the rules somewhere, but since they're really damned long: the asterisk indicates a player who didn't respond to the latest match. When a player who already has an asterisk fails to respond to a new match, they're removed from the queue. So once Kitoy's game gets going, the queue's going to get really short.

On a whole other tangent, I'm going to bring up something that's best discussed here than in the match thread: Dabbil's death points.

My vote is for clockworkjoe to get the full 10 points for Dabbil.

IMO, the only hit point that should matter is the last one.

In any case, this needs to be codified - preferably in a way that gives 10 points for a kill to one player every time. If we go with anything other than "whoever causes the final point of damage", said rules will get complicated.

Perhaps the points should go to "whichever character does the most damage, ignoring self-inflicted wounds"? We would then have to decide how to determine ties, and if damage-by-minion and damage-by-non-minion-proxy (such as pushing someone off a cliff or through a wall of fire) count. (I suppose we have to decide that as well: I'd go with yes for simplicity.) As matches go by, other instances will show up that require yet more subrules to be invented.

Personally, I am of the camp of the person that did the killing blow. Killing blow means that last hit point. I guess when it comes down to it. It is a game of death, and the person with followers/cohorts are using one of their feats and normally alot of the atribute points to insure they get a chance at points. Also, the elves and halflings listed in the current game have very few hps and a simple spell would have dealt with the lot of them.

Hps: 7 or 8 means even if they succeed in a savings throw they will probably die to most area effect saves. The unusual thing about the current game is the suprising lack of evocation firepower.
