Game shop owners in the northeast

I'm looking for gaming store owners in the northeast, specifically in southern NY, new jersey, or MD.

I am looking to open my own gaming shop in PA, which should not interfere with your business in any way. What I am looking to do is come out and visit for a day and see some of the behind the scenes stuff, as well as interview an owner so I can get some information to start my own business.

If you are interested and available, plase feel free to contact me.

Thanks!

The Dragon's Den is in Poughkeepsie, New York.

It is run by goobers though- so I am not sure how much help they would be. In fact, I would suggest doing the opposite of anything they suggested. heh.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help guys.

I'm hoping some one that actually owns or runs a shop might be visiting the boards and will reply as well. I know I can go contact owners via phone/in person, but I'm hoping to make a few contacts thru postings or emails here on the board.

Again, any help is MUCH appreciated.

jezter,

Where are you thinking of locating this biz in PA? I live halfway between Allentown and Harrisburg and there are a number of shops I can point you to around here. I don't own any, but I've been around often enough to know who might be accepting of such a visitor as yourself.

Well, there's a coupla nice ones in Hamburg and Lubeck that you could ...

Oh.

You mean that continent. ;)

Well.

In that case ....

/shrugs and paddles away/

Edit: Now seriously, I wish you best of luck with your store. It can be very exciting and very scary to start something new like that. I started developing my own niche as a freelance highly specialised translator over here four years ago, and I did the exact same thing your're trying to do here: went around and talked to people. Amazing how helpful many people are.

Viel Glück!

Check out the Days of Knights, 173 E Main St in Newark DE. They have a nice sized store and I believe they still run a gaming club. They have demos of various games and had reserved space for folks to run RPGs and miniatures.

It has always been one of the best run and effective gaming stores I've had the pleasure to do business with.

Check out The Gamer's Realm. It is run by Rob Placer, who would more than likely help point you in the right direction (including having some books available on the subject.) You can find out more at the website The Gamer's Realm under the Cranbury, NJ location.

Keep in mind that it is VERY VERY VERY hard to make a living running a game store. The only successful ones I know are run as sidelines - the owner has some other means of support besides the store.
