Game Shops in Rochester NY?

First Post
I am going to be in Rochester NY to take the airport security screener test and I will be at the Riverside Convention Center most of the day. Can some one give me the names and address of any game shops near the convention center?

Try Millenium Games & Hobbies on W. Henrietta Rd. I used to spend a lot of time there when I was in school. IIRC it's not far from the convention center.

Also there was a store on the north side of the city called "Crazy Igor's" or something. Really nice set up, but I don't know if they're still there. If you're able, hop on the thruway and head to Syracuse and Altered States Game and Hobby (http://www.alteredsts.com/). Gaming nirvana. ;)

Another UR Alum ('01) weighing in. :)

The World Famous Crazy Egor's is out in Hilton these days, so it isn't really nearby.

Other options are Milennium Games & Hobbies on West Henrietta in Townline Plaza, just north of Marketplace Mall. It used to be Crazy Igor's until Igor sold the whole store and moved to doing mostly mail order and cons.

The closest to the convention center though, is Boldo's Armoury (891 Monroe Ave., Rochester, NY 14620). Not a big fan of the place, but they have a fair amount of stuff. Not as much as Milennium's, though.

Also, I can't recommend Altered States in Syracuse enough. Great store.

Good luck!

Bill - you know me. I used to game with Lap and folks. I played the purple slug by my screen name. Do you know if anyone else I know is on these boards? Do you still game with Joe, Jay, Tom, etc...?

And yeah, Millenium is really the best place around Rochester. I liked it better when it was Egor's, though.

On our way to Origins this summer, our van DIED on the I-90 just outside of Rochester.

On our last day trapped in Rochester, without a hotel to hang out in (checkout was at 10:00, our van wasn't ready until 2pm), we went out looking for something to do. That morning I had driven past a gaming store when on the way to the drug store, so we dropped in.

It was Millenium Games & Hobbies.

We *LOVE* Millenium Games & Hobbies.

First of all, it's the first time in my life that I've walked into a store and seen my own book on the shelf. I wigged. Then they let us hang out at the gaming tables at the back of the store for the next few hours playing Icehouse games, waiting for our van to be fixed.

Go to Millenium Games & Hobbies. Support them. They Rock.

Duh... Don't I feel slow. :D How's it going?

Nope, we went our separate ways and I've been playing a lot of RPGA stuff lately. I still hang out with Jay a fair amount, though, and see him at the dojo all the time. I know he lurks around here sometimes, as does Lap (under the Malimar scree name, IIRC).

Egor's is great, and I still stop by his booth at shows, but Millenium's is much more convenient since I work down the road.

Anyways, if you're in Rochester, go to Millenium's on West Henrietta Road. Skip Boldo's. :)

VB - where and when did you go to school? I went to UR and graduated in '97. Maybe we know each other?

Probably not... I was going to school near Buffalo. My girlfriend lived in Rochester - since there were no good game stores where I was, I'd visit her and hit the stores in Roch... :)

Wow, isn't this a walk down memory lane.

I went to school at RIT (where they used to hold RWAG and Rudicon... I dunno if they still do) and used to WORSHIP Crazy Igor's. In fact, the store I go to now in the SF Bay Area is called Gator Games, and I still call it "Crazy Igor's" about 50% of the time.

I remember buying Magic cards and White Wolf games at Igor's back when they were in that tiny, tiny store in the same shopping center where Millennium is now. They moved to the larger store and became INSANE. Still the best gaming store I've ever shopped, bar none.

It lost a certain something, in my opinion, when it became Millenium. I can't put my finger on it, but....

Anyway, the best thing about Crazy Igor's (besides all the other cool stuff about it) was its proximity to DiBella's sandwich shop. I dunno if that's still there (been away from the area for a good four years or more), but it's easily the best sandwich place I've ever been to.

Oh man, you've got me all nostalgic. And for Rochester, of all things. ;)

Yep, RWAG and Rudicon are still around, although they missed a year a little while back. There are also some newer cons at Brockport and Geneseo (anyone in the region - I highly recommend Running GAGG in February at SUNY Geneseo).

I had lunch there today, as a matter of fact. :D They're expanding and are in a number of Wegman's these days also.

Hey, don't go knocking the Rachacha. Guess its about time for a trip back, huh? (at least for a sandwich) :D

Oh, and to keep this on topic... Um... Empire Comics also sells RPG stuff.
