Game Store/Gamers in Chicago?

Greetings,

I know there are a lot of gamers from Chicago on these boards, so I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm moving to Chicago in about six months, and I'm hoping to revive my gaming. I've been living in a sleepy little town for the last year that doesn't have much by way of gaming culture.

So my question is simply this: What's the best gaming store in Chicago, and how does one get hooked up with a game? Advice/Contacts are most welcome.

In Chicago proper, there isn't much for actual game stores. Sorry, I don't count comic book stores and book stores as being game stores. Gamers Paradise in the Century is actually in Chicago though and they often have some good books in a 50% off bin for d20 and other older products.

There are a few other Gamers Paradises in the Chicagoland area.

If you're into Warhammer (or 40K), there are two or three stores also in the greater Chicagoland area, one in Gurnee Mills I know of, and another in Mt. Prospect by Elmhurst Mall I believe?

If you're going that route that, Games Plus is the way to go. It is perhaps one of the best stores I've seen in terms of inventory and a fairly knowledable staff. Not too crazy about their discount program, butthey've started putting miniatures in a discount section, have a game room, game days, web page, and other useful stuff.

i'm going to see how many blokes from my usual group i can drag with me the next time i go to gameday. :D

I've been to games stores from New Zealand to Norway (and many in between) and I have to say that Games Plus is certainly among the best. :)

You may feel like you are listening to a broken record, but Games Plus is awesome. It is by far the best game store I have been to. I drive 60 miles to go and since it is such a drive, I usually stock up while I am there. You will pay retail for most of what you purchase, but when your most expensive items are $60-$100 it is hard to give away much margin and still pay the bills. I have never met a rich game store owner. They do give a $10 gift certificate for every $100 you spend.
