Game Store/Gamers in Chicago?

I've heard of a place called Leisure Hours Hobbies in Joliet, but I've never actually been there, so I can't speak much about it.

If you want a great store, friendly staff, and good place to hangout and meet people, then you can do no better than Games Plus. Lots of people recommend it because it quite simply IS the best gaming store in the chicagoland area.

Absolutely, Games Plus is top dog. Without qualifications. The miniatures selection will blow your mind.

If you're downtown, the Gamers Paradise in Water Tower Place seems to have an unusually extensive selection of d20 products.

Also downtown, the Grahamcracker Comics in the Loop had some decent stuff once upon a time, but I haven't been there in a year or two, so I couldn't really say now.

Trevalon Moonleirion just took me way back with the Leisure Hours remark. Once upon a time, back in the heyday of MERP and Rolemaster, it was a great store. I wouldn't even know if it still exists -- it must be over ten years since the last time I was there -- but if so, it's worth a shot.

Where will you be located?

If you're into Warhammer (or 40K), there are two or three stores also in the greater Chicagoland area, one in Gurnee Mills I know of, and another in Mt. Prospect by Elmhurst Mall I believe?

Actually, Joe, it's called Randhurst Mall, at Rand Road (Rt 12) and Elmhurst Road (Rt 83). Also, there is the Games Workshop Battle Bunker in Downers Grove at 1524 Butterfield Rd.

And thanks, guys, for the great plugs. :D Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Game Day.

I second every recommendation of Games Plus. It has a wonderful selection, a knowlegeable and friendly staff, and ample room for gaming. I think you will be impressed with the store, Remus Lupin!

There are Gamers Paradise stores in Chicago Ridge Mall, Century Plaza, Orland Park Mall, and in a few other locations.

Hobbymodels U.S.A. is a good store with a location in Oak Park. The Dungeon is located on 79th Street near Central Avenue in Burbank.

There are also many comic book stores that sell gaming materials. A friend of mine owns Game Kingdom on 31st Street near Wallace in Chicago. It is small, but a good shop.

Any other stores?

No idea yet, but I'll be working in Lincoln Park and the Loop. It sounds like Games-Plus is the place to be. I'll definitely check it out, although I'm also looking for places I can take the L to.

I live one minute's walk from the Lincon Park Zoo and know all the easiest routes (CTA) downtown. Drop me an Email when you get to town and I'm happy to show you around. I'm sure we'll get a chance to game together if you like. :)

Great. I'd love to talk about gaming. I've been living in Quincy for the last year, and I haven't had too much opportunity to game. I've to the itch.

ooh, pretty cool. :)

Sometimes when I need a break from work I will drop whatever I am doing and stroll over there. It's amazing how having your face a few inches from an adult tiger can put things in perspective, even when there a thick sheet of glass in between. :)

Plus, as much as I enjoy nature programs, animals move in ways that isn't reaily apparent on film or video. I find that as a DM I can picture creatures more easily from having watched them in person.

Last September I sat and watch a pack of wild African dogs tearing around in a large circle for about an hour. The lead dog never looked back even once. Most of the others were constantly looking back at the ones behind, and comparing their position to the ones ahead of them. There was a particular dog that made it's way from the middle of the pack to second place and it never took its eyes off of the lead dog. I have a feeling that someday that dog will be in the lead...and not looking back either.

:)
