My brother picked up the new Game Trade Magazine at my FLGS tonight. It has a 4 sample pages from Magic of Incarnum.
The first two are from the introduction. Basically, the incarnum is a radiant mist that certain individuals are either gifted or trained in manipulating. They can make "soulmelds", magical objects that are the physical embodiement of incarnum. The process of making them is like a wizard preparing his spells, only they tend to last until the meldshaper decides to unshape them.
There is a concept called "essentia," which is how meldshapers make their soulmelds more powerful. It's covered very vaguely. For example, it notes that "invested essentia is not a fixed number; it can shift up or down as the meldshaper desires."
Also, you can bind some soulmelds into chakras. There are 10 chakras, that are tied into the body areas where you can where magic items. When you bind a soulmeld to that chakra, you can't gain any benefit from a magic item worn in that area. So, if you bind a soulmeld to the chakra tied into the ring area, you no longer gain the benefit of your ring of protection.
The Chakras have different levels. The least chakras are the crown, feet and hands. The lesser are the armes brow and shoulders. The greater are the throat and waist. The final (not named) are the heart and soul chakras.
The other two pages seem to be from the soulmeld chapter. The three soulmelds are Incarnate Weapon (create a weapon that can't be sundered or destroyed), Keeneye Lenses (lenses that improve your eyesight) and Kraken Mantle (create a mantle around your body that lets your swim much better).
Each has an example of how putting more essentia into it increases it. For example, putting essentia into Incarnate Weapon increases the attack and damage rolls by the amount of essentia you put into it.
They also have examples of what happens when you bind it to specific Chakras. For example, Keeneye Lenses bound to the Brow Chakra allows you to see invisible and objects, while if it's bound to the Soul Chakra you are constantly under the effect of a True Seeing spell.
