Starting Saturday, February 7th and continuing every other Saturday after that, Steve Creech will be running a new "advanced" d20 campaign. This campaign features all the grim, gritty, and downright nasty aspects of RPGs that folks love. We will be using elements of some of the best supplements and incorporating them into this campaign.

For example, we will be using a variation of the hit points rules from Babylon 5, the critical hits, healing and called shots rules from Torn Asunder, prestige races from Oathbound, defense values and classes from d20 Modern, and the sanity rules from Call of Cthulhu along with other tidbits from various source books.

Those brave enough to join in and play will find themselves in a world that has an unusually high amount of planar portals and connections to other worlds and realities. Survival is tough, magic restricted, and only the best heroes will make it beyond 12th level.

As I promised, here are more details about the world:

Player Campaign Information

Enter a world shrouded in the mysteries of the past, where daring heroes must outwit nature’s fury, pry magical knowledge from those committed to keeping its secrets, and struggle against an evil force bent on enslaving and ruling all.

Qwothas is an ancient world that is being ravaged by violent and powerful supernatural storms capable of ripping open the fabric of reality and leaving gates and portals to other planes in their wake. These storms can destroy whole sections of land and sometimes leave remnants of ‘other’ realities in its place. Most major settlements are located in sheltered areas where the natural landscapes help to protect them from these awesome storms.

Beasts and monsters roam the lands and seas; some are indigenous beings, while others are transported here by the storms. Nefarious cults and organizations raid the ancient ruins of a long forgotten race for forbidden magic while slavers use cunning, secrecy and black magic to steal women and children away from their homes. Evil forces have banded together that include factions of undead and factions of demonic powers in far distant lands seeking to increase their domains of control. Territorial disputes can occur between various races and settlements as each compete for the resources to protect themselves and in some cases, research ways to end the violent storms.

Magic represents a tangible but wild force easily tapped by some races, yet elusive for others. Despite the commoner’s awareness of the existence of magic, only exceptional and gifted individuals may shape, mold and control it. Those that can are treated with caution and sometimes persecution. The Ancients wielded magic effortlessly over 5000 years ago, as evidenced by the fantastic architecture and occasional magical artifact found in the ruins. Today, few can call upon the ritual magic responsible for such wonders.

Individuals who have been ripped from their home worlds only to be deposited here are called the “Taken” by the native inhabitants of this world. Those who have lived most of their lives on Qwothas possess a wide range of feelings regarding the Taken. Caution is the first and foremost rule among native inhabitants who view newcomers with a mixture of suspicion and pity. Trust is given once earned and those who give that trust tend to be quite loyal. Honor and goodness are core beliefs to the people of Qwothas. This is seen most among the great warriors who live by the code of honor and steel, their belief so strong that is resonates on the battlefield of war when most combatants exhibit a measure of respect towards their opponents, even if they are evil.

Technology levels are primarily equivalent to that of a medieval fantasy setting. Firearms do exist, but they are primitive and tend to be quite rare except for certain areas of the world where technology is a little more advanced. In these lands, war is more prevalent and lumbering golems are said to be used as components of the armies that fight there. Some of the Taken possess technology never seen before but it is often of limited application and use, being discarded once it no longer has purpose.

Welcome to Qwothas. Enjoy your stay... :)

We had some interest in these two campaigns today at the store. I'm going to bump this a few times through the weekend and early next week to keep it fresh and see if anyone wants to get involved with it. :)

Oh! Oh! Me! Please!

I'll take a seat at the advanced table, please. Imagine getting to play instead of DM for a change.

Arthur-
We talked about doing it as a sactioned deal, but the customers just want to be able to come in and play each other without worrying about things like that.

Buttercup-
I'm looking forward to having you play. I hope to get a few more people to commit. It's only two Saturdays a month after all... :)

Hmmm six hour drive one way, twice a week....
Maybe itll be doable when they build that uber autobahn to connect the poor impoverished south with the rest of civilization( like 2015).

I have no group down south here, but I shudder at memories of driving from Warsaw to here in winters past to visit relatives.....
