Gamer ADD

Scribble

First Post
Man... I really want a modern, or near future cybermodern verion of 4e.

Or maybe it' a good thing I don't have one, as then I'd start working on a campiagn for it. :P

I have Gamer ADD-

I'll be in the middle of one campaign and suddenly my interests shift into another genre... suddenly it's all I can think about, and I want to start working on the campaign.. you know for the future, not for right now... But then after a short period of working on the campaign "for the future" I decide I want to run it, and thats that. :P

It doesn't always happen. Sometimes I have enough willpower to stick with the current game until my interest swing back around into that genre again, but ugg...

Anyone else?

I get the feeling D&D was built to cater to cross-genre ADD folks. I mean, consider a game that could incorporate the Barrier Peaks, Ravenloft, and Sigil.

Cheers, -- N

I've had two DMs that had the mentality. Eugh, the amount of campaigns that we started and then abandoned only a few sessions in... so many promising characters. ::sighs::

This isn't an attack on you Scribble- only asking that you keep the poor players in mind who feel attached to the character and world ;)

I also don't have any good advice. Running something when you have something else on your mind that you really want to run is never fun.

Anyone else?

Yeah, I know what you mean. My group's summer consisted of a 3.5 campaign, interrupted by another 3.5 campaign (due to the first campaign's DM burnout), interrupted by several children being born, board games, anyone?, which led us to BattleTech (mmm, nostalgia), which inspired us to whip up a BattleTech RPG of sorts, a 2nd attempt at 4ed thrown in for good measure (Mr. Yuck sticker), as well as a Star Wars Saga game (big yay!), ....

I'm somewhat notorious for my gamer ADD. I'm very bad about it. We've been running 4e since it came out, but it's really starting to grind on me.

For many years, I have been somewhat notorious for my 'gamer ADD' — then, as fate would have it, I was actually diagnosed with ADD late last month. Suddenly, my 'gamer ADD' makes a lot more sense.

We refer to it as "Bright Shiny Object Syndrome". Have to go chase the new shiny ball. I haven't had it recently, but I know everytime my players look at the PH2, they all want to start over again with new characters.

We will occasionally run a delve night, instead of our regular campaign, and it gives them a chance to try the bright shiny object, and sometimes, I'll even write it in as an NPC.

I'd love to run a short intermezzo session where people could try out different classes, or even a different game system. It would be great to explore new ideas and game systems. We simply don't have the time for it.

Our group is full of people with jobs and kids, so scheduling even our normal game is very difficult. Due to non-coinciding vacations we went 4 weeks between our last session and the one this coming weekend, then it will be another 4 weeks or so after that before the next. One of the players is my 14 year old son, and I'd like to finish the campaign before he goes off to college in a bit under 4 years. Our last campaign ran for six.

Maybe I need to see if we can run with someone absent, but the group has been *very* resistant to that in the past. Perhaps I can try and schedule my intermezzo sessions when one or more of the regulars can't make it.

Given the personality of one of my players, I think he'd enjoy a change of pace. He and I both play WoW, but he can never dedicate himself to a single MMO for more than a month or two at the most. He plays it like crazy for a short time, then reaches some goal he set for himself, and leaves the game to play a different one. I told him he had MMO ADD, and he agreed!
