games stores in San Diego CA, Charleson SC, and Baltimore MD?

Hiya folks---

I'm going to be travelling again quite a bit next month, to San Diego, CA, Charleston, SC, and to Baltimore, MD (for two conferences for work, and for my sister's graduation from Towson University). Are there any good game stores or fantasy/sci-fi book stores in these cities? In particular, I'm always interested in places with older, OOP games (AD&D and non-TSR stuff from 1985 and back, Call of Cthulhu, Grenadier and Heritage minis, etc., etc.).

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Try Gametowne in Old towne San Diego. That is probably the oldest gamestore since at least 1981.

There is a game store in Fashion Valley east near the Red Lion Inn. At least there was when I was living in San Diego in 1998. From friends that still live there, it was there a couple of years ago. This game store was big on in store tourney's when i lived there.

The Green Dragon in Charleston. They are near the ice skating rink and Northwoods Mall. Take the Ashley Phosphate Road exit off of I-26. If you do this going towards Charleston turn left onto Ash. Phosph. Road. IF you go from Charleston go straight across the road and soon after you pass the Lowes and Home Depot that are across the road form each other you'll turn left into the parking lot where the Ice Rink is. The Green Dragon is almost all the way to the other end of that long line of shops.

They are in the yellow pages too, either under comics, books stores, and maybe toys.

At least this was all true before I moved away in October of 2005. They were the only "good" RPG store worth going to. Hobbytown USA was liked by some. They are west of the Ashley River. They are in the phone book as well.

Gametowne's hours are erratic. It is difficult to find open at times.

These days, Game Empire (http://www.gameempire.com/) is no longer in Fashion Valley; it has relocated to Clairemont.
It is a comprehensive gaming store with impressive stock, and games/tourneys going on in the ajoining room every night. Gamer's paradise, really. Best of all, it is open consistently and most of the day.

Hey, are they still around? I haven't seen that place since 1990. It's good to know that at least one good game store is hanging in there. I don't think I ever ran across a store that had a quarter of their selection.

I second the vote for Gametowne. I bought all my D&D related stuff when I was living down there.

Baltimore has no real game stores anymore - HOWEVER, if you take a short ride south to Glen Burnie, THE place to go is Games & Comics & Stuff. Ed Slomin runs the place and has been gaming a while and really knows customer service (when to help and when not to). They have rooms upstairs for games and he is installinga set of computer gaming stations in the rear of the store front.

Originally he opened the store with his buisness partner Beth, she left to pursue a career as a professional artist, she has designed several cards for WotC and has several item pieces in the new "Magic Item Compendium" so if that's any indication as to the dedication of the owners/former owners... You can see why its the FLGS of the area.

Of course while you are in Glen Burnie, if you are a Warhammer nut, you can visit the Games Workshop HQ.

+1,000,000!!! Awesome shop, good people, but kind of a haul from towson. Hrrmmm, makes me wonder if an indie shop would have a chance in that area? I still miss the old Armoury game store. Sigh....

That's a shame since I've known Clark just after he opened the game store. That isn't surprising though. After he got married there seemed to be a loss of focus since he was also entangled with his wife's family businesses.

Yes, Game Empire was the store and it was great during the last two years I was living there. Though Gametowne had an annual week long gaming tourneyments every year.
