Games that are more fun to play than to read

For me, I'm a HUGE fan of the Runequest rules, but the campaign setting of Glorantha is so dense that I've had trouble getting players interested in an ongoing campaign over the years.

Out of interest, which version was this?

I started with RQ2, and back then D&D didn't have *any* built in campaign world, yet RQ 2 had half a page of history and a map which was bursting with intriguingly named locations. I think we ran a 5 year campaign just on the basis of the maps and stuff gleaned from cults of prax (and later cults of terror)!

Cheers

Judging not by rules, but by premise, how about Paranoia?

GM: I've got this new futuristic game set in a dystopian society ruled by an insane computer that crushes all dissent with a variety of strange technological devices.

Players: Cool. So we're playing rebels, right?

GM: No, you're the police.

Players: Pass.

Well, if you put it THAT way...

If, OTOH, you describe them as "Keystone Cops"- or more accurately, the characters from the Police Academy films, you'll get a more positive response.

Yeah well, it's all fun and games until you get stuck in the Blue Oyster Bar!

:p
