Games Workshop: Another Price Increase!?

Just caught this on Gaming Report. I've been out of the hobby for at least a few years. This has certainly solidified the hope of me ever coming back. A 17% increase? Are they outta their freaking skulls? I can only hope that Privateer Press and Rackham take advantage of this blatant disregard for their fans and slay the Games Workshop beast once and for all... I would much rather play one of the Rackham games anyway. Their miniatures are a lot better and their artists and art direction are second to none in this industry. Anyone one else moving on from Games Workshop to some other table top games?

Here's a copy of the article:

Games Workshop has hidden a massive price increase behind the reduction in price of a few boxed sets. Not every blister pack increases, but the average price of a blister pack goes up from $11.88 to $14.

Mmh. This is why I stopped buying their minis a couple of years ago. I figure that the way things are going, there will soon be a very large amount of GW miniatures available for a very low price.

The 43 page pdf that details the price increases basically only covers blisters and much of it is old stock. It's not as huge as the last price increase that GW had a few months back and doesn't affect the primary lines so much (other than the price reduction in battle forces).

I find it interesting you would use Rackham as a company who would undercut GW. I love Confrontation, but the truth is they are the most expensive minis on the market. Rackham also uses lead not pewter, which means they are less affected by the spiraling costs of tin and petroleum (used in plastics).

I do not want any mini companies to go out of business, especially one who brings so many new faces into gaming. I may not agree with their corporate tactics, but I do like some of their mini lines - and that's what matters to me.

By weight alone, [some of] GM´s metal miniatures cost the same as pure silver, or so I calculated once. Plastic ones must rival gold, at least. I doubt metal cost has anything to do with final price.

I left Warhammer when miniatures´ cost entered the realm of the stupid. My painted armies is something I feel proud, but it was becoming ridiculously expensive. If the games was at least half good...
