In the gaming tables thread, the topic of bookshelves came up, something near and dear to die hard gamers.

So I thought I'd open this thread to contrast my existing bookshelves, and as long as we are here, feel free to share your own experiences.

I have 4 bookshelves that house gaming stuff of one sort or another.

At our old house, I kept many of my books in a built-in bookshelf. After we moved that wasn't an option, so thus began my recent accumulation of bookshelves.

The first bookshelf I got after I moved was this one, a five shelf bookshelf which sits in my walk-in closet. As you can see, the shelves are beginning to bow under the weight of gaming books.

Last years ennies left me needing to do lots of bedtime reading, so I got the second shelf to sit by my bed.

I was keeping much of my collection in plastic crates stacked on storage shelves. When I saw the first shelf beginning to bow, I got the third shelf from staples opting for thicker shelves. However, the bookshelf doesn't list a higher weight limit than the first one, so I worry the shelves will bow. One of the middle shelves is not easily pulled out; you can see on this shelf I have stacked the lighter boxed sets.

Finally, I got the last bookshelf I got from IKEA. A little out of my way, but it seems much more ideal a gaming bookshelf. It's 6' x 6' (perhaps it doesn't show since the images are the same size, but it's a bit bigger than the others. It's as tall as the two taller ones, but is also as wide as it is tall. As you can see, I haven't even filled it up yet.)

Right now I have three bookselves filled with gaming books, about 5 boxes, and then piles on the floor. I also got a entertainment stand that turned out to small so I am also storing RPG book on that at the moment.

I want to really invest in some really good book shelves but that's in the future.

Best Gaming Bookshelf I've discovered:

My old Entertainment Center. All the nooks and crannies provide different sized cubicles, so I can quickly arrange my books by theme.

The braod top also works perfectly for Minis.

Target has a line called KD Basics, and they used to make 5-shelf bookcases for $30 that were just perfect -- and for the price, they looked pretty nice. They were a bit narrower than most build-your-own 5-shelf cases, maybe 28 inches, and after several years with every shelf full of (mostly) gaming hardcovers: no bowing whatsoever! :)

Recently they changed these shelves, though the price is the same. Now they're wider, and to save money they consist of two separate shelves: a 3-shelf case and a 2-shelf add-on, which lets them sell the 3-shelf as is without any extra work. They're still a decent buy, but they're just not as nice as the prior incarnation.

The IKEA 6x6 looks sweet! :)

And I thought I had a lot of books. I'm an amature.

I think I qualify as professional - I have 27 full size bookcases in a 2-bedroom apartment. Only 4 are filled with gaming material, though.

I like that IKEA bookshelf, I may have to see about getting one of those. I don't have nearly enough RPG books to fill it, but it sure gives me a great goal to work towards!

I can see the conversations with my wife now... "Yes honey, I need this book. Look my bookshelf isn't even close to being full!"
