A's for your Q's
I apologize for not responding sooner to all your posts. I have actually opened up the EN World message no less than three times and been pulled away from the computer before I could finish a reply (in fact I lost it once because my session timed out and I neglected to save what I had typed).
Anyway, here is (hopefully) answers to all your questions:
Khan:
>>Well, like I said above, I understand the color/price problem, but do you think you could please go back to the paper you were using before, or at least something that isn't so easy to damage?
The paper quality was as much an issue of price as the color/black and white issue. Are other people having a problem with this? I can't make any promises but I'll look into it.
>>Well, that is a real shame. I, for one, loved the editorials and was disappointed when I didn't see one for the third volume of GF. An additional source for reviews of products would be great (and was), IMHO. And as for fiction -- I would really love to see the return of short fiction, for exactly the same reasons you listed in one of your previous editorials. But hey, I know you can't possibly please everyone all the time.
It's really refreshing to get a positive post like yours because there are times I feel like we can't please ANYBODY
I had an editorial written for Volume 3. When I decided to pull it from the issue I had the idea to start an editorial column on my website. But any of you that visit our website in any frequency know that we don't do a good job of keeping it current
One of my many faults I'm working on. My therapist says I'm making progress. Reviews are offered on our website and we have over 50 that need to be posted and more coming in every day. Short fiction WILL return we just didn't have any for #3. Nothing is finalized until the book reaches the stands, of course, but we already have another great piece of Freeport fiction written by Rob Toth offered to us for Volume 4.
BFGoblinoid:
1) What level of subscription do I need to commit to for the freebies? Your "secure order form" defaults to 4 issues at regular price.
Any level will get you the freebies. You just save more money on your issues of GF the higher you go.
2) If I subscribe ( at any level? ) Will I get the preview issue too? I
bought issues one and two from my LGS... PS- your web page
"But I'm not going to the conventions! How can I get a copy?"
needs to be updated - It still states that subscriptions have been
suspended...
I'll send you the preview as well. List the preview in the free d20 box along with your other item(s) so I don't forget. The info on the preview page was referring to the subscription form that is IN the preview which is no longer valid. I have corrected that page. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
3) Volume 1 included a map and description of plans for "Project: World X", which I thought was a neat idea, but I missed a mention of this in Vol 2. Is this idea dead?
There is a new World X map in Volume 3. We have a lot of neat ideas that we haven't had enough time to follow through on all of them in each issue. The graveyard is another example. We didn't get any in this issue but the feature will be back.
4) I'm not sure I understand what the "FREE $20 of d20!! " is all about either. I assuming you can use it to buy vol 1 or vol 2 if you had missed it. What if I own both already? If this refers to something else, can you explain it in detail please?
You can pick up to $20 of d20 product and I will send it to you along with your freebie box (as long as it's in print and still available through standard retail channels). It's our (United Playtest) freebie to you in addition to the freebies the other companies are giving you.
>>I'd much much rather see an article or piece that is COMPLIMENTARY
Over 120 pages is original new and what you would describe as complimentary. If you liked Volume 2, you're going to love the content of Volume 3.
Mindcrime:
>>GF #3 is out now? Damn, I got to get a copy - I have an article in there - bonus Herbalism stuff for Occult Lore - and I want to see how it looks And I want to see all the other cool stuff too.
If Atlas Games doesn't have a copy for you just email me rob@unitedplaytest.com with your address and we'll get you a comp copy. And thanks for the content, it was cool. Made me buy the book.
Khan:
>>Hmm... I thought they offered authors a free copy.
We do but only if we have direct contact with the author or artist. In the case of the herbalism article we dealt directly with Atlas Games in the article exchange. So when the time comes we supply Atlas Games with the complimentary copies.
JohnNephew:
>>It may have been unclear from his posting, but I hear tell that GF#3 is not in stores yet (it's an October release), but it *is* printed, and there are some advance copies out there. (Maybe subscription copies are in the mail, too?)
Correct, GF3 isn't in stores until October, which is right around the corner!! Khan must have gotten a review copy. To be honest I was surprised he had one, I had only gotten mine last Tuesday. Subscription copies should go in the mail within the next two weeks. We're still waiting for some product to show up but it is en route.
Wolverine:
>>Whoah it's out already? Man are you just lightning-fast or am I making a wrong assumption? I mean, I only turned in the fourth illo. like, yesterday? Was I doing pics for issue 4, or are you just a wildly quick layout kinda guy?
You were doing art for our first PDF book Gaming Frontiers: Monsters. It should be out in October. 50 or so new monsters for your game done in GF quality.
GFJeff:
>>Gaming Frontiers Volume 3 can be summed up in one word: sweet. ....Call me biased...
Well, Jeff, you are biased but you're also right. GF3 is sweet. I was real worried when we made the move to go B/W but it came out great. It finally feels like the sourcebook we've been trying to make all along.
On this subject I would like to point out an error before anyone else does. On the back cover the intro blurb still says "Every new full color volume". OOPS. Yes, the book was originally laid out in color which means we have a lot of color artwork that got presented in b/w. We plan to offer a free PDF of all the color stuff so you can at least see it. I'll make a post about it when its ready for download.
Thanks for the support everyone.
