I quit a gaming group in 2022 after 13 years. There were two big problems. First the game was based in Seattle and I live 62 miles away. The group was Seattle-centric and the gaming schedule was based around the convenience of the majority. For over a decade I struggled with this. I said various changes made things harder for me. They listened politely but rarely was I accommodated. And in a sense, why should they? I was one player. Everyone else lived in Seattle. This was a constant source of inconvenience and sometimes stress. The other big problem was the preferred gaming style of the group. They preferred a very gritty, low-powered game. They eventually stopped playing D&D and one factor was they considered it too high magic and high powered. This was a source of friction. The last straw came when they said the next campaign would be a modern World of Darkness game. Our PCs would have no magic, no powers and no psionics. We would be playing ordinary people. They already knew my gaming preferences. I said I would prefer Vampire, Mage or Werewolf. No was the collective reply. I said I quit because I'm not driving 62 miles for a game I have no interest in. They were sorry but they let me leave. These folks are good people and longtime friends. I still see them around 3 times a year. But we don't game together anymore. I miss seeing them but I don't miss the game or the long drive.
