Gaming in Iraq

About 21-15 years ago;
Played original Traveller while stationed at Camp Johnson N.C., also there were several D&D groups at Camp Lejune but never managed to join any of them.
Played 2nd D&D on and off with squard mates at various ATD posts while in the Marine Corps Ready Reserve.

My group in college had 2 army, 1 coast guard, and 1 marine (myself), 2 civies
My immediate post college group had 1 army and 1 marine, 2 civies
My current my group includes 3 army, 1 navy, 1 marine, and 6 civilian pukes.

A group I joined briefly, but had to drop had 2 former army players.

Yep a lot of militiary former and present play RPGs.

i'm sure RPG's are popular in the military for the same reason card games and other games are popular... because you're stuck somewhere with a bunch of other guys who also have nothing to do. in "real life" here, you have a job, a wife/girlfriend (well, for some of us), kids, other family, etc to keep you busy and many people quit playing because they don't have the time. but when you ship out - you have plenty of time you never knew you had! :)

i've heard that in many places dice are forbidden, to discourage gambling. guess the ones who made that decision didn't know what polyhedron dice are for...
