Gaming in Munich

A keyboard without qwerty just isn't a keyboard. Not to mention all the hassles finding @, `, ' ,and ´. Sigh.

Anyway, since I`m also stuck in Frankfurt, I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction, Yuan-Ti. So far the only shop I've found carries Shadowrun and Vampire.

Westwind, sorry for the delay. Just happened to see this thread was still alive.

Stores in Frankfurt: do you know where the Zeilgalerie is in the downtown shopping district? It's next door to the Kaufhof. On one of the upper floors, there is a store called "Games Store" (yes, in English). They carry a ton of gaming stuff, but not a ton of D20 stuff.

Someone recently turned me on to the Time Trader (at Berger Strasse 280-284) which I have not yet checked out, but is supposed to have all the D20 stuff you could want.

I also got turned on to the BEST order site in Germany. I tried them out and I now believe it. If they say they have it, that means they have it in stock and will ship it the next business day (which means you get it 2 days after you order it). And they have pretty much everything: Dragonworld.de. If you don't speak much German, try emailing them. They almost surely speak at least enough English to help you out and they seem very friendly.

Hope that helps... Btw, I am moving to Boston at the end of the summer. I am curious about your "location" status. What brings you to either FFM or Boston?

Thanks for the info, Yuan-Ti. I've avoided that place on the Zeil because...well because it's probably the ugliest building I've ever seen But I'll check it out asap, and the other place as well.

I live in Boston for the most part, but I'm in the midst of doing the primary research for my dissertation, which is on consumer society in Frankfurt during the Kaiserreich (once a Geldstadt, always a Geldstadt), so I spend a lot of time at the Uni and the Stadt-Archiv, although I live in Sachsenhausen (ahh, the joys of Ebbelwoi).

I like to think my German will be good enough to mail-order that stuff if need be (although my German continues to amaze me and people I talk to, in good and bad ways), but I may end up taking you up on the offer.

Hmm. This remembers me of my 286 and the X-Wing Game. To have it work, I had to disable my German Keyboard Driver, because it took to much memory. Those days I slowly grew accustomed to english keyboards. But those days are over, since several years...
(But here at the University of Oldenburg, some of the computers do use englisch keyboard layouts and drivers...)

I wouldn't defend them, as I'm not native to Munich (obviously), nor do I even know what the CSU is.

Regardless, Dragonworld isn't going to work, since I can't read German. Amayon reportedly takes too long for me to count on delivery before I go home.

I guess I'll wait and apply more heavy patronage with Talon and just continue reading all of the Exalted stuff that I brought with but will never play.

Do you have any friends that speak German?
(It is hard to be in Germany without speaking German, I think. Especially with those... Oops. No Bavarian bashing... )
How long will you still be there? (If it is not more than a month, you should be able to survive the time. Oh, and some of the more frequently ordered RPG books might even be deliverend in 24 hours or 2-3 weeks. But than, there is still the language problem - amazon.de is german)

Hmm. A further alternative might be that you just try to go to an ordinary book store, and ask if they can order it. I can easily imagine that some people there can speak English (maybe even Spanish ), so you might give it a try.
In Germany, the book delivery system is quite good, as far as I know (and experienced).
German books might be a bit expensive than in other countries, because of the "Buchpreisbindung", but at least the quality is good .

I am certain they will speak at least enough english to help you out. Plus, of course, they ship within a day of your order, so it is worth it. You can browse online without any real trouble (use the "Rollenspiele A-C" etc., links on the right hand side, Rollenspiele=RPGs). When you click on a product it will also tell you if it is in Englisch or Deutsch... but it seems the if the product description is in English then so is the product. Then just email them and explain your German is not good enough to use their online form and you are interested in X and Y products. I expect they will respond with: "please send us your credit card info and address in germany".

If it's an emergency, I would be happy to frame a letter in German for you and send it to you so you can email them.

Just wanted to go on record saying the internet, with all its many problems, can be a great place. Checked out both stores and grabbed a few nice Shadowrun and d20 books, getting a much-needed gaming fix.

for those of you living in the Frankfurt area: Tired of Frankfurt? -> go to Wiesbaden. In the town center, they have two good RPG stores: Merlin (at the market place) and Ulisses-Spiele (old town center, near McDonalds).

If you find a decent store in Munich, please post it here, because I'll be moving there this fall !!!
