We still game in the basement. In all but two of my friend's houses there is nowhere with adequate room to game upstairs.

The only time I didn't game in the basement was in college (Michigan UP, the basement had a dirt floor).

Here in Southern California basements are rare... but I do know of a couple (just no game rooms in them). My favorite place has always been outside at night.

We've traded around gaming spots between the houses of members families. When there's a viable basement (which there often has been) we use that. Otherwise it's a living room with windows and sunlight.

After being initiated to the hobby in Aurora, CO's East Middle School's library in 1977, my next stop was in Manhattan, KS.

Everyone had some kind of basement there- usually dedicated to kid or family entertainment- so for a few years, all of my gaming was either at school or in someone's basement.

Since then, though, nary a one. Currently, we usually game in someone's breakfast nook or dining room, though when I host, its in an upstairs den...again devoted to my entertainment.

Almost always gamed in a basement here. When I lived at home, my parents had a large basement with a six-seat poker table, and up through college we would game there. When I moved away for grad school, I bought a house which also had a basement, and I was given one of my grandmother's old kitchen table sets- and gaming was down in living room there. Now, I have a big house with an enormous entertainment space in the finished basement- a full kitchen, home movie theater, pool table, and soon, a Sultan Highlander gaming table! Gaming in the basement is the ONLY way to go! ;)

Sounds like a very nice setup! I really need to allocate funds for a setup like this, shoot, even halfway like this!

Common in the Chicago land region at least.

In some cases the basement was the 'shrine' of the man but instead of sports stuff it was D&D stuff. One guy had thousands of miniatures. Thousands. Awesome but made me wish I had much more storage for my own stuff at the same time.
