Gaming Music

Okay I'm running an online game at the moment and we use skype for voice. Is there a program out there that will allow me to play music on my machine and have all the other people hear it without me holding my mic up to speakers?

Thanks in advance for all your help. :)

I can't help you with Skype, Ventrilo is my preference for online games. It is possible to do with Ventrilo with some setup. I actually got this setup and tested tonight, seemed to work well, though I have yet to try it in a game.

To see how, google for:

play music ventrilo virtual audio cable

That should get you some how-tos.

Good luck!

I suppose with two computers, a laptop and desktop, in the same home you could open up two Skypes and have one run the music.

Can't you just play it off the same computer? They'll hear it through the mic.

Not the best sound and it may take some fiddly to get the volume right, but is there some reason that it wouldn't work?

@Hobo: Some songs will come over as a scratchy or bass-ey mess. And as the song plays on the other end, it'll echo back through the players' mc and hit the DM, ad infinitum. This creates an unbearably loud "whooshing" sound.

Headphone can help with this, but wearing any kind of headphones for a 5+ hour session (the norm for my group) can get very uncomfortable.

I'm having the same problem as the OP, except I'm the only player via webcam, while the rest of the group (DM included) is at the table together.
