Gaming resources for PDAs?

Bugaboo

First Post
I'm looking to invest in a PDA soon, and I'm curious about programs available for Pocket PCs relating to D&D or any other RPG fun.

Suggestions or references, anyone?

Why don't you check out the EN World D&D Software Forum. There have been a few PDA threads there I think. I'm sure those guys will appreciate your sense of humour, so be sure and tell them you have a utilty for using e-tools on a Palm pilot or something...

*shrug* There's darned little on PDA softwre in the Software Forum. My suspicion is that there really isn't much call for it, or there's very little software out there...

I've looked into using applications for my Palm, and there are a few apps out there.

However, none of them seem to work very well in game. Not to knock anyone who has worked on them, there are several that seem to have a lot of thought and effort put into them. But the problem is essentially that there is too much information you need and too small a screen.

The only application that I've actually used is a simple die roller, and then only for large dice rolls.

I wrote a decent little die roller back when I was first learning to program the PocketPC. If you'd like a copy, feel free to email me. It allows you to roll whatever combinations you want, stores favorite sets, and provides a running history of rolls. It's pretty basic, but fairly fun. I took digital photos of some dice for the interface (just tap on the litle picure of the color-coded die you want if you only want to roll one). I've become much better at PPC interfaces since then and don't have the time to rewrite this guy, but it's still pretty sweet.

I must take this opportunity to pimp (again!) my little PalmOS jump calculator - it is a very simple utility that helps with an annoying calculation.

e.g. there is a 14ft chasm. What DC does everyone need to make to cross it with a running jump? You can work that out with a couple of taps.

The screen handles all the kinds of jumps, for character speeds from 15ft to 60ft per round; you can input either the results of the skill check or the distance to be cleared, and it will display the distance travelled or the DC needed respectively.

On another note, When Realmscrafters appeared about 2 years ago promising a splendid character record for the PalmOS "Real Soon Now" it (a) made people like me think "great, no need to crack on with my development" and (b) sucked up people who were actually doing development on alternatives (SaiZai for one). Realmscrafters turned out to be vapourware in the worst sense, but there has been a 2 year hiatus in PalmOS development.

Cheers

This effective bit of pimpage makes me want to get the tool, but where can I get it?
