Gaming stores in Paris

HalWhitewyrm

First Post
I'm going to Paris for Thanksgiving weekend (unless the rioters reach the Eiffel Tower by then, in which case I am taking a train somewhere else in Europe).

Can Parisian EN Worlders point out to me some gaming stores, especially those that carry RPGs? I will be staying in the Marais (4th arrondissement). Please let me know in which arrondissement the store is located, and the closest landmark, so I know if I happen to be by X, there's a store nearby (if you know the Metro station, even better).

Thanks so much!

Aren't the rioters looting all the rpg stores? I thought that's what the riots were all about...they didn't get their Underdark sets in yet.

Sorry this doesn't help you much with your question...I had to say it :p

There are a few in the latin quarter, in the 5th arrondisment. I don't remember what streets they're on, but Jeux Descartes (a games store kittycorner from the Cluny museum) has a decent selection of RPGs in their basement. There are also two stores named Starplayer (IIRC), one of which has mostly CCGs and miscellaneous games, and the other focuses on RPGs and minis. There's another one within a block of two of those, but I don't remember what it's called.

Jeux Descartes rue des ecoles

Jeux Descartes boulevard pasteur

Oeuf Cube - ignore the Games Wrkshp reference - they sell RPGs too

Of the three, I prefer the Jeux Descartes on rue des Ecoles followed by the one on boulevard Pasteur.

FYI the last two digits of a Paris zip code tell you which arrondissement it is, e.g. 75005 is in the fifth. NB the arrondissements are arranged in a spiral so the fact that two arrondissements have different numbers doesn't necessarily mean they aren't neighbours. On the other hand, if they have continuous numbers they're adjacent.

You can find these stores using the Pages Jaunes site I linked to in your other thread. It includes maps and street & storefront photos. The RATP site shows you how to get to these places by public transport.

Hope that helps. ;)

Civil unrest notwithstanding, I'm still jealous. International travel for a holiday plus a chance to shop at a new gaming store. Sweet! Enjoy it.

Jeux Descartes on rue des Ecoles is definitely the place to check first. I was in Europe this last summer and asked the exact same question on the boards, and that was the shop I checked out. Amazing place, great selection of RPGs/Board games/classic games (chess/go/etc). You won't regret it.

Thanks for all the help, everyone. In planning our itinerary, it seems when we take our Historic Paris City Walk (from Rick Steves' Paris 2005 book) we pass just one street away from Jeux Descarte on Rue des Ecoles, so it looks like I'll be able to hit that one at least. Even if I don't go while we do our walk, I am staying just on the other side of the Seine, in the Marais, so it's a little stroll to the Left Bank at any other time.

Can't wait to leave!
