Gaming with Leadership: Splitting the loot

Has anyone else run across this situation? How does your group handle this? Or how would you handle it?

Up to this point, I've disallowed the Leadership feat. (I've since rethought that decision, and will allow it in my next campaign.) I've given it a lot of thought, and the conclusion I reached is that I would suggest (but not require) that the players handle it exactly it exactly as you outlined: half-shares for the cohort(s).

As a DM, it's not my decision. As a player, I always suggest that the cohort get a nearly full share. The cohort is already 2 levels lower than the rest of the party, meaning the cohort is going to be in much more danger of dying than a PC. Underequipping the cohort as well just seems foolish. So I like to encourage cohorts getting at least as much gear as is appropriate for their level (which is 2 less than their master's.)

Something to note is that the cohort should never effect the PCs' amount of gear. By which I mean, if the DM has decided to follow the standard wealth guidelines, then allows Leadership, he should provide enough treasure that the PCs are still at standard wealth guidelines, even after taking the cohort's cut into consideration. The only way the other PCs lose treasure is if the DM does not adjust the amount of treasure he's giving out to take into account the number of people in the party, which is bad DMing, IMO.

I had a cohort (I always am a player, dont like to DM)
I played both my character and cohort (Each having its own perosnality, wating time on combat rounds to communicate, etc...as playing two chars)

I told the rest that I was going to get a cohort and that If i did that, I wanted a full share for the cohort as well (My character was lawful good and felt that otherwise was like getting advantage of the cohort)
They agreed, because they understood that the cohort was like any other player....I mean that if the cohort is risking its life for sure he/she will want something in return, as any charater would.
Also his/her items belonged to him/her and not to my character (he is a cohort not a slave ;) )
So there was no problem with the cohort getting a full share of the loot.
