Tetsubo said:Amazon delivered my copy yesterday. I'm doing a cover-to-cover read. So far it is very cool. It seems to take a much more holistic look at GW creatures, the environment and the PC's in it. There is a cohesiveness about it that I've never seen in a GW selection of creatures before. The Bearwyrm for example is just sick and twisted but realistic in a SF way. I think some of these creatures would fit right into any D20 game. The one that comes to mind first is Darwin's World.
Some of the art isn't to me taste. But my memories of earlier GW incarnations are so strong that is to be expected. The original katkin art (1E or 2E?) can't ever be surpassed.![]()
I wasn't bowled over by the Player's handbook. But so far I am very impressed by M&M.
Biohazard said:Hardcover? Softcover? Page count? Cover art?
Tetsubo said:Hardcover, 216 pages, more of a graphic than a true piece of cover art. The interior art is good to passable. The robot illustrations are quite good. Forty-eight entries under Made Life, two Made Life Templates, thirty-nine Machines, nine Machine Templates, thirty-two entries under Natural Life, eight Environmental Templates, nine entries under Characters. I'm up to page 114 and so far it's a solid book and a fun read. What stands out so far are the cool robots, the Serf and the Barl Neps. This books is everything I wanted in a GW creature book. I just wish it were longer.![]()
Biohazard said:Sounds very sweet. I'm dusting off my GW Player's Handbook (it's been collecting dust since I got it three weeks ago) and starting to plan that Gamma World campaign I've been dreaming about. Gonna get me Mutants and Machines ASAP. Maybe do a play-by-post in the New Year or somethin'...

On the subject of the cover art, is it true that Mutants and Machines uses the identical cover as the Player's Handbook (save the title, obviously)?
