"Gargantuan Orcus..." Have I mentioned recently just how blatantly awesome that is? I think I might get two (one without a doubt).

I must say that I heartily approve. :D

Is thier a BADD chapter devoted to "color-coded for your convenience" dragons yet? The only thing worse than a Wyrmling vs Party senario is how D&D has made each dragon's weaknesses obvious to anyone with a few ranks in Knowledge (arcana).

Weaknesses? Beyond the fire/ice subtype, dragons don't really have weaknesses. Well, their ref saves are only "kinda good" instead of "awesome", and the touch AC is really low (not that you need arcane knowledge to figure out that it's quite easy to hit the dragon if all you want to do is touch).

Beyond that, you'll have to tell me how a few ranks will help against the type of DC you'll have to roll to know anything about the dragon (and the base DC only gives you very limited information, for anything really useful, you'll need to roll a lot higher than that).

I mean, to even know that this lizard in front of you is in fact a red wyrmling, you'll have to roll a 17. You'll get a tidbit of information with that roll, and that will probably not be that it has the fire subtype. You'll probably get to know the basical information about the dragon type (tough bastards that hit like hell, that can't be paralysed or put to sleep).

What? Those are the only dragons low level PCs can fight without it being a very likely TPK.

This dragon is a very young or young green. Momma is at least 5-6 CR higher and covers 240 miles in one day of flight.

So bring out the Dragons when the PCs can handle a "real" one. :p

I'd even consider buying this just to have, if the sculpt is nice and I can get it for a reasonable price.

I'm pretty sure that a minature of a Gargantuan Orcus is being made to sell to collectors as much as it's being made to be used in games.

The gargantuan dragons weigh in towards the CR20 end of things, so a lot of PC's will never reach that level of readiness. And of course, even for those that do, D&D combat is so ludicrous at that point that it doesn't resemble anything that will meet anyone's expectations.

Thinking along these lines, I wonder if this might not be a tie in elsewhere. Could there be a high level adventure against Orcus next year? Might the D&D Open be a foray against his undead minions?
