Yeah, Dwight described the party's dwarf-skin canoe rounding the bend when they saw the red dragon, and evocatively described the scent of dwarf urine in the first scene. They do seem to be hard on dwarves in Cornwood.
I think they kind of mixed the D&D gnome and dwarf together.
They also explain other math/physics jokes that even I didn't get, and I'm a graduate student in electrical engineering (my life revolves around calculus and statistics in an everyday sort of way).
Then laughing and then eyeing each other nervously because we know most people wouldn't get that joke.
