D&D General Gary Gygax interview in a 1982 BBC documentary.

I crit!
Saw this over on RPG.net and thought it was interesting. I think I've heard of this interview but never seen it. I'd love to see more of the actual footage that didn't make the documentary. There is only a little bit with Gary but there is a bunch about gaming at the time. Link is at the start of the Gary Dungeons and Dragons part.

I remember my Mum telling me around that time that she'd been listening to the radio and heard about this game called Dungeons & Dragons. This must have been it! Nice to have that tiny gap in my knowledge filled.

(A few years later my Mum saw The Dark Eye (first edition) and bought it because she thought it was the same game she'd heard about on the radio.)

What a fun find!

It always strikes me how perceptive the rpg forefathers were. We complain about their early rules that were haphazard or vague but I am always impressed when I hear what they think about the game and it’s meaning.

These were pretty smart folks. They were/are just people but I am amazed at their grasp of things so early on.

Even in the 70s, (I know this was the 80s) their collected “game wisdom” and advice is admirable even with the hindsight of many new games, decades of hindsight and many new editions.

A pet peeve of mine is how people take it for granted as if “oh yeah I would have figured it out,” or “they should have known.”

Always reminded how much fun I have had in life because they got some typed pages to market!
