I hate gear in statblocks even more than I thought I would. It's hard to spot.

Plus, it seems really oddly inconsistent what I can or can't take. Like, I can't take a silver sword from a gythyanki? I think almost anytime that it is really tied to a creature it can't be taken. But this is a sword....

I really wish this was part of the treasure line, or handled like Nord games does. Anything but this.

Then change it. You can give as little or as much as you like.

Did you check the treasure categories in the DMG cause those are directly referring to that. An Older Dragon will have more impressive treasure.

Im a 3E/PF1 guy but even I can admit it was a nightmare to read the stat-blocks.

Two examples.

Blue Dragons will have Relic Treasure Hoards, and it will be a large hoard rolled for twice or doubled cause Dragons like collecting treasure more than others.

A Young Blue Dragon has 8800 GP worth of art objects and 2 magic items, one common Ruby of the War Mage, and one rare Necklace of Prayer Beads.

An Adult Blue Dragon has 72000 GP worth of art objects and 3 magic items, one uncommon Pearl of Power, one rare Censer of Controlling Air Elementals, and one very rare Staff of Thunder and Lightning.

Ehh, I think this works well. If a monster has a treasure entry it means they have a hoard at their lair.

Having the tables at the end of all the descriptions is seriously annoying IMO.

What are you referring to here? The treasure tables are in the DMG, not the MM.
