Geas/ quest ruling

First Post
In my adventure the 2 pc's coned a guy out of 20 G's.
Well the guy caught one of the PC's and tortured him until the PC came up with the Idea to turn over the money and his partner for his freedom and a 2 week head start before the guy can come after him, the bad guy added that the pc could not attempt to harm him. The BG brought in a Mage to make it “official”
So the one pc turned over the money and his partner. They also hired an assassin to kill the bad guy (I’m fairly sure that this breaks the “could not attempt to harm” part of the geas)
What I am wondering is, is there a shelf life on the stipulation of the PC not hurting the bad guy or is it indefinite? Does it end when he turns over his partner and the money? Or does it become permanent?

Thanks
Z
