Geas/Quest Spell Question

DemonLoki

First Post
So I was looking through some available spells and came across Geas/Quest. It seemed like a very interesting spell, however it has Verbal Components and a casting time of 10 minutes. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas where this would actually be a viable spell to use. I can't really think of a time where you have 10 minutes to sit and run your mouth to someone for this spell. Anyway, any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks

It's mostly a roleplaying related spell. Think of it as "interpersonal utility". You can use it to punish evildoers, or to make sure your teenage daughter behaves for the few days you'll be gone saving the world again. I never found any really great uses for Geas/Quest, at least nothing that the much more flexible Charm Monster or Dominate Person wouldn't accomplish just as well.

Here's a thought, why does Cleric get ONE version Geas/Quest, but Wizard gets both that and Lesser Geas?

OH-and there's an item in Book of Vile Darkness that can be made with the spell. Its a "Fanatic's Collar" if I recall. The user puts it on. They can then choose 1 creature, and that creature may impose its will upon it.

...why would you make that.

Geas/Quest is mostly for DMs. Not intended for use during combat.

You could theoretically knock out a monster and cast the spell on them after the fight is over.

Good way to get the PCs to go all Manchurian Candidate on a public figure and start a fun story arc where they have to go on the run and find the real culprit.
