I like older movies more than most recent movies. Old black and white movies rock. Noir movies are some of the best. Stuff from the ’70s and ’80s kicks ass. Sure, it’s dated and some of the content isn’t kosher by today’s standards. I like that movies got in and got out in 90-120 minutes. I can’t stand the absolute sprawling nonsense of most movies that go over 90-120 minutes. Contrary to that, I absolutely love the sprawling nonsense of Bollywood movies that feel too short at 4-5 hour run times. EC Comics’ horror comics were the height of horror comics. Tales from the Crypt was the best of the bunch. Tales from the Crypt was one of the best horror anthology TV shows ever made. It looks a little dated now, but they still hold up. The only show better is the original Twilight Zone. It’s easy to tell which writers came up through academia vs which came up as journalists and reporters. The writing style is wildly different. Flowery nonsense vs rapid-fire prose. I’ll take the rapid-fire reporters every time. Likewise, pulp writers kick ass. Tell me a cool, outlandish story and get on with it. Plot-driven genre fiction of just about every stripe is far more interesting to me than anything that snobs describe as literary.
