Gen Con '03

Hey all. I am not sure if this is the best place...or that "Breaking News" thing so I will put it here since its more "General Information-y" to me.

I contacted the good GEN CON folks last night from alink on ther site and asked them about Hotel Rooms for Gen Con 2003.

I got a reply this morning saying the following:

We are currently still under contract negotiation. Once this is all finished I will post more info! Thanks.

I was pleased at the speed at which the reply came and the (semi) solid information shared. I hope that this continues!

Hey, they are some good folks. I was trying to look up info on their site last night, and couldn't get to it because it was in .doc format. I'm on Linux at home and didn't have anything to read it with. I sent them a letter explaining that not everyone can read that format.

I got a message back today, saying that it was put up in .doc to get it there ASAP, and she'd get it in a regular format soon. Very fast response and courteous.

GenCon is in good hands, I think.

I think so, too. They have been very good about answering questions and concerns raised over in the WotC boards.

Of course, their site plans say "2002" on them, but I'll cut them a little slack. ;)

While the timing's not an issue with me (because I live in San Diego anyway), who's bright idea was it to hold GenCon SoCal the week before Thanksgiving?

As much as any other reason it's probably because of bookings at the site. All the annual events will already be booked, so they'd have to take what they can get.

Remember also that they would have looked at other games conventions to make sure they fitted in with them as much as possible.

Considering how booked the Convention Center is, I am kind of surprised the were able to book it so soon.

But I, too, am one of the locals, so it won't be a big strain either way. The convention will need to be November/December any way to space it between Indy and Europe. So if it isnt US Thanksgving, then it will be Chrismas.
