[Gen Con 04] The Insane Game - Updated 8/15/03!

Ashy

First Post
NOTE: The "Insane Game" is only a "placeholder title"...

As I am still on the high from GC'03, I've come up with a bit of a crazy idea for Gen Con 2004 and I want to see if there is ANY interest in it whatsoever, as it would likely take the whole year to get properly planned and in place.

What about a single, massive game for all EN Worlders that show? You could have multiple DMs - all working in concert to help the Master DM (probably Pkitty!) in a massive, epic, sweeping game that would become, literally, the thing of Gen Con legend!

What say ye? ;)

Update: 8/15/03
Ok, gang - here's the update, as promised. In addition, you should be seeing at least one update a month from us, as well as some possible "HIGHIGHTS" and "SNEAK PEEKS" as we get closer to the day.... ;)

First of all, PIRATECAT IS ON BOARD, baby! :D (Honestly, that is enough for an update in and of itself, but does the insanity stop there - no way!)

Second, Pkitty, Teflon Billy, and myself have 99.9% of the Logisitcs hammered out (as much as one can without having a completely defined plot or characters) and we feel that they are exceedingly solid. Here are some of the bullet points:

  • Overall goal: to create a game where "groups of adventurers" accomplish goals, but are capable of affecting how other groups accomplish goals as well.
  • The plan stresses interactivity between diverse adventuring groups
  • The plan will cater to both roll players and role players, but not be overly heavy in either area (well, maybe a bit on the role playing side...)
  • We have several solid ideas for the plot and are beginning work on it and the more creative side of things as we speak.

Now, I need all of you to do something for me.

  • If you have expressed interest in being a DM for this scenario and STILL want to do so, email me at the address below.
  • If you have expressed interest in being an AUTHOR for this scenario and STILL want to do so, email me at the address below.
  • If you have expressed interest in being a VOLUNTEER (NOT A PLAYER, BUT A VOLUNTEER) for this scenario and STILL want to do so, email me at the address below.

Dude, I thought you were crazy when I met you, but now I know. :D

I say go for it. I'd be interested in seeing if it could be pulled off. If it works, then it goes down in legend. If it doesn't, it goes down in flames, but probably big flames, and we can say "Yeah, but we were crazy enough to try"

BTW, emergent & I were discussing some crazy ideas of our own for a game next year. I don't want to spoil anything, so you'll all have to wait to find out what it is.

I'd say that that sounds awesome!

Here's what I could envision:

You'd have to have a huge table and multiple DMs, and then they end up reporting to other DMs. You could do something like a large scale war against orcs or something like that. Everyone brings a 5th level character, and you then have this epic landscape that stretches across the entire table, and everyone has their miniatures and then you bring tons of counters representing about a thousand orcs, and a huge battle ensues, and then those that survive storm the outer keep fighting ogres and bugbears. And then the remaining survivors storm the inner keep where they fight the orcish general and his close advisors in an epic showdown!

I'm getting exciting just thinking about how absolutely cool that would be!

House Rule:

Feat: Run Massive Games [DM, Mighty]

Prerequisites: Base DM Bonus +6, Bluff +8, Intimidate +12

Normal: The DM is capable of running relatively small intimate games of (4 + Base DM Bonus) players, maintaining enough focus to make each player feel involved.

Benefit: The DM is now capable of running mega-sessions with multiple DMs. Each additional DM adds his or her maximum player amount to the total supportable player count. Only the lead DM must possess the Run Massive Games feat. Games are run at a cumulative DMing penalty of -1 per additional DM due to the additional communication and coordination required, but this can be reduced to -1 per 3 additional DMs if there is plenty of Coca-Cola & Cool Ranch Doritos available to keep the DMs well-fed.

WOO HOO! Sounds GREAT! Ok - recomendations for DM's? :) We'll have to get Clay to chat his new best friend Monte up, of course.... ;)

We'd also need to figure out where and when. With so much going on during the con it might be hard to schedule this thing. We could try for Wedsday but I don't know if enough people would be there for it. I didn't show up to the con till Thursday, and I wasn't the only one.
