[Gen Con 04] The Insane Game - Updated 8/15/03!

I'm planning on making it to GenCon for 2004 come hell or highwater!!

Well...ok...I really want to go, so I'm going to try hard to make it happen.

In light of many factors I would highly recommend we do this Pen and Paper style. The logistics are a bit of a nightmare...but if you need I might can help with those. I've run 200+ person LARPS before (I ran the Origins vampire LARP in '99).

I would love to play in this event though...sounds madcap, nearly impossible and incredibly fun.

Count me in as general volunteer. I could possibly DM as well, though I think I would rather play. Very excited about this idea.

I'd also be interested in Pielorinho & Spider's LARP. I have never LARPed, and GenCon seems like the place to try it. I had never played FUDGE or Cthulhu before this GenCon and had fun at both. Besides, Pielorinho and Spider are cool guys.

My idea, which Cthulhu's Librarian alluded to, was to run a game of D20 Modern or Spycraft set AT GenCon. All other details are secret.

I think this is a great idea. I don't think it would be right though, if we played a Larp or Amber. We are all part of a d20 messegeboard, it just seems like we would play something d20...

Not that I'm against anything else, it just seems odd to me.

And we don't need to try and run one big scenerio simultaneously. Too complex, too bogged down, and slow. We need a written adventure that a number of tables of 4-6 players each can join in on. And get Piratecat. Get him in on this. Hell, let him make some of the decisions about what the best way to have such a game take place would be. PC knows this kind of gaming pretty well, I suppose, so someone tell him what is going on!

If we had a Enworld Adventure Module and enough players and DMs, we could probably set two slots open (9 hours together) to play one major module... Some groups might do well, others might not... but I'm sure it would all be fun talking about it afterwords.

The big bad evil guy should be a feline 'pirate', but that's just my skull speaking. For character generation, borrow a couple rules from the Play by Post forums on this messegeboard. 1) Point Buy, 2) Set a starting level, 3) Set starting gold, 4) Set what books (Just core rulebooks 3.5 (SRD) probably). That would prevent any issues of confusion there...

Hey, here's an idea:

We could play a _huge_ game of Amber. Nothing like 150+ people blind voting to see who's got the best strength. And, best of all, there are no dice to roll -- all the DMs can decide the victors by committee.

*No. I'm not insane. I'm not serious, either. Simple is good.

*Raises hand* I'm out.

I think everyone who DMs instead of playing deserves to have a character in the adventure designed after thier user name. It's just fair that they have a 'character' that everyone from the boards gets to interact with. Of course, my mind is currently thinking that the adventure is going to involve trying to crush the evil HIVEMIND TM.

No worries, TB, I don't think there'll be any Amber - and I am not 100% sure on the LARP - that might be an event best left for another venue. I am thinking D20 all the way, really, and I think that you guys will like what I (and whomever else) come up with. :)

A Thought...

Here's a thought...The old 1e tournament modules were set up in a series of rounds. What if the adventure was done the same way? Not necessarily a semi-final and final, but rounds of play that were all tied together with some common thread. As an example, the Slavers series (A1-A4) used the same PCs each round. What other threads could tie it together I can't think of right now. Just a thought...

Oooh!

Count me in! I'd love to DM or help in any way, shape or form...

Hmmm....what kinda mass Cthulhu event could we do.... :)
