Gen Con Shopping List

Just curious for those of us going to Gen Con this year, what're you looking forward to buying at the Con? I've got quite the shopping list myself, including Paranoia XP, about a dozen Green Ronin books, and Malhavoc books as well.

What's on your shopping list?

Just a word from personal experience: Don't concentrate too much on purchases, unless you've got about a thousand dollars in cashflow you just want to blow. The Vendor room is an even better source of playing demos of obscure new games you'll NEVER get to play at home, and finding out just how many neat and innovative products are out there. My philosophy is, the shopping I can do at home on the Internet, and for cheaper. I myself impulse-buy too much at Gencon, and last year I strove to spend more time just meeting designers, shaking hands and talking, and just taking in all the fun and cool things going on.

As for a shopping list, my advice would be make it AT the 'con, after you've made a complete circuit of the vendor room. Unless you've been to Gencon before (don't know if you have), you have NO EARTHLY IDEA how many oddball things you'll spot and want to own. :)

Hope my rambling was helpful in some small way. Have a safe trip, BTW!

Let me see...

$$35 - Iron Kingdom Campaign Setting
$100 - World's Largest Dungon
$150 - Some other game books
$$60 - A couple of shirts
$$75 - Some anime movies
$$50 - Lap Dance
$150 - Food & water

I absolutely agree. Don't buy anything on your first pass through. Like gambling, GenCon requires good cash management.

So, basically, there aren't really good deals to be found at GenCon? FOr example, if I want a copy of Pirate's Cove (the board game) I'm probably better off buying it now, rather than waiting for the con, as I'll just be paying MSRP there anyway?

well i'm not going this year.

but if i were my list would be:

dice... at least 25 lbs worth
Jade Hare
Rahasia from Daystar West
Up the Garden Path
Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth (mono) or Lost Tamoachan
and an Orange cover Palace of the Silver Princess...

you can never have too many of the above items. :D

If I were you, I'd drop by Different Worlds booth and get an autographed copy of the Valus from Destan, his own bad self. And while I was at it, I'd get him to autograph a copy of "Return of Ippizicus Childeater", which will only be available (initially) at Gencon.

That's what I'd do, yessir.

Of course, If I were you, I'd be going. Curse you.

Oh, and for Pirate's Cove, some online dealers have it at a good price, like this guy or this guy over here that I just googled. Pirate's Cove is worth the full price, though, if that's the only way to get it.

If you are looking for deals, look for the 1/2 price used game dealers. Crothian pointed me towards a couple of them last year, and I managed to pick up several books that were in new or almost new condition for 1/2 the retail price. Many of them were books that were only 2-3 months old, but I also managed to pick up quite a few old books (at 1/2 original retail price) that I have been looking at on ebay for months but were selling for more than I wanted to spend.

The Auction is great for this! :D

Well after my first walkthru I will see but tentatively:
More dice - I had my dice bag stolen this spring so I am on a mission to replace my special sets with duplicates.
Book covers - At least preorder from TheGamersBag booth if not picking them up.
WOTC Mini's - only a few I am missing so if I see a good deal I will pick them up.
Something for my boys - Last year I got them giant dice this year maybe a game or something.
World's Largest Dungeon - It's on my list, just have to see how finances go.
Dundijinni - Want to see a live demo first.

Anything sparkly that catches my eye :D
