Gen Con SoCal? How's bout Gen Con East Coast too?

I agree that the name GenCon should be preserved to represent the largest game convention in the US, and that it should stay as close to it's "home" in the Midwest as is feasable. If they want another con in Cali, then they should give it a different name and let it stand on whatever reputation they grow for themselves. It might even outshine GenCon someday, but it won't happen anytime soon!

Coming back to the same place was one of the charms of GenCon, but it was becoming painfully obvious that Milwaukee wasn't able to handle the requirements of lodging. Chicago would have made a lot more sense as a host city, but Indy was probably a lot cheaper.

Obviously, they want to capitalize on the name GenCon and make some bucks off of it. Seems like everything in America is for sale these days. People who want conventions on the east or west coast already have them somewhere in their region, and they should work on adding sponsors and advertising to grow their conventions--word of mouth always helps too.

There used to be a Gen Con East, at least in 1984. I know because I went.

I'm pleased to say I was a complete and total bratty little kid. I sat in a game of Bushido with the game's creator and read my newly purchased copy of The Fineous Treasury comic book.

I'm surprised no one smacked me.

I agree. We need to have something for us east coasters. There's already something in florida I read about on the publisher's board, but something definately needs to be in the northeast.

You mean like Conncon? Or total Confusion? Or ConMan? Or Carnage on the Mountain? Or Anonycon? There are lots of NE cons!

They just aren't nearly as big as GenCon, though. :D

I agree, there should only be one GenCon. Who wants to go to the bastard stepchild of GenCon? I'd rather go to the real GenCon.

Hell, I'd rather they keep GenCon where it is now, and not move to Indianopolis.

It is all about draw! Can they both be able to pack the con, not just with vistors but with vendors, events and people to judge the events.

The Indianopolis GenCon should be able to draw a good crowd from much the east coast. The west coast, I don't know, there should be enough people to make it work without effecting attendance at the other.

The question becomes how would both cons effect the interstructure, would their be enough people at both cons to run the games?
