No not just the gamers that don't shower...but this as well:

Birds circulate horrendous smell throughout building
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/news/060702_sn_gulls.html

Excerpts from the above link:

"It stinks big time," Colleen Hartley said Thursday while working at a display booth for the University of Phoenix Milwaukee campus during a technology show.

"The odor is horrendous, and it's going to get worse as it gets hotter," added Robert Seefeld, director of building services.

Seefeld said his staff has sprayed disinfectant on air intake units and added carbon filters to the ventilation system.

But descriptions of the smell by vendors at the center Thursday ranged from a wet carpet in a musty basement to the cow barn at the Wisconsin State Fair.

Got to love it!

Howdy Art!

This was posted a little while ago, I believe. I think Barendd Nobeard was going to stop over there and see if they made any progress since June. :)

How many of you click through links...not like I am profiting from this am I? If I had not included the whole thing someone would have complained, now I have the flipside...

Thanks!

Oh the stink!

While birds and most other critters have the potential to put forth foul and offencive odors, I think gamer stink is by far the worst kind of smell ever concentrated in the back rooms of gaming stores, or convention halls. I had the pleasure of working part-time at a local comic and gaming store for about 6 years. The store hosted an annual gaming convention, it was a blast! While some games and gamers would come and go over the years, the insane stink was an "old regular" at all of these cons. And no ! Fabreez does not work in this situation, (in fact many people were quite offended). But not nearly as some of the parents picking up their kids. To quote my then 8 year old daughter visiting to drop off some dinner for me , " Daddy, WHAT"S THAT SSMELL ? !!!" I told her it was the smell of all the pizza boxes stacked in the corner . A white lie.... :(

One would think that Milwaukee would try to solve the problems at its premier exhibition space.

Well, I guess I will have to put up with it.

As for gamer smell, I believe in practicing good hygiene. Also, I believe in making a good first impression.

Someone I chatted with at breakfast last year mentioned he saw a local news broadcast in Milwaukee in which a representative of the Convention and Visitor's Bureau said that not having Gen Con would let them attract more respectable conventions.

Let's see.

The Gen Con crowd is generally under 40 and spends money on food and entertainment. People travel from throughout the US and beyond to reach Gen Con.

We are generally busy gaming, so we are not frequenting Milwaukee's red light district.

Possibly the convention and visitor's bureau wants more people to take advantage of the red light district. Maybe they are getting kickbacks from the prostitutes.:D

(No, I am not slamming Milwaukee. I just think that the local leaders should have tried a bit harder to keep a convention that draws a young crowd that spends money.)

was it the Visitor's Bureau or GenCon's organizers who decided to move the convention? i watched a news story at the time of last year's GenCon that suggested one of the reasons for the move was a relative lack of hotel rooms in Milwaukee. folks were renting rooms in the UWis-Milwaukee dorms...

We rented dorm rooms the first Gencon I ever went to and that was several years ago. Gencon's organizers moved it, but Milwaukee didn't make any real effort to keep it.
