[GenCon] Birds circulate horrendous smell throughout Midwest Express Center

Latest rumor is that the smell is no longer a problem. I still have not made it down there to check it out personally, but my brother-in-law took my children down there for FanFest (during the MLB All-Star week) and reported no problems.

As for GenCon leaving,
  • Yes, it's sad
  • Yes, it's bad for me (financially), which really should have been their first concern. :D
  • Yes, GenCon has outgrown Milwaukee
  • Yes, the local Chamber of Commerce is run by :):):):):):):)s who didn't want GenCon here
  • Yes, the local Chamber of Commerce is run by idiots, who apparently don't like visitors who spend money
  • Yes, the Chamber of Commerce is run by morons who think VFW members will spend more money than GenCon attendees

Just a quick note: The Chamber of Commerce in Milwaukee is actually called something else. By using this moniker, I avoid slander, libel, and the annoyance of giving their true name any publicity whatsoever.

I think Black Omega hit the nail on the head. As the economy continues to tank (some economists are talking "double dip recession" recently), we'll see if the idiots in Milwaukee enjoy having an empty convention hall as opposed to GenCon.

I suppose there is a one-in-a-million chance that WotC asked for certain things re: GenCon and could not get them from Milwaukee/MEC/Chamber of Greed/etc., but I doubt it.

But since WotC no longer owns GenCon, that's not likely. I think it probably has outgrown the city. Personally, I'm excited about the move, because it will be only an hour away from me. Next year will be my first GenCon! In fact, its possible that my whole group will go down for a day.

i watched a news story at the time of last year's GenCon that suggested one of the reasons for the move was a relative lack of hotel rooms in Milwaukee. folks were renting rooms in the UWis-Milwaukee dorms...
I think that the main complaint is lack of hotel rooms downtown near the convention center. No one should have to travel a half hour from their hotel. And thats if the traffic is light.
I am disappointed that we lost GenCon and Winter Fantasy.

Peace and smiles :)

Personally I think GenCon should be in Kansas City, that is nice and centrally located. A respectable driving distance from the greater part of the US, and most importantly my house.

Barendd, I would think that a lot of the local businesses must be glad when Gen Con rolls around. Unfortunately, it seems that the local business leaders lack vision.

(Heck, I wonder how much additional business Colonel Goolsby gets during Gen Con?)

As for location, I guess Indianapolis will do. If Gen Con outgrows Indianapolis, then the convention needs a large city in the Midwest. Chicago or one of its suburbs would be a logical choice, because of transportation.

But at the time the decision was made to move, it was a WotC decision.

Anyway, glad you'll get to come next year. I'm planning on going, but my wife is already talking about me having to "not go every year" once GenCon leaves Milwaukee. The horror! The horror!

Exactly.

A lot. If the convention center is empty, a lot of local business are hurting.

Major Goolsby must like you, William--that's the second time you've given him a promotion to Colonel! :D

Barendd, maybe we should give the good Colonel a promotion so that the owners will want to press for more hotel space in Milwaukee.:D

I think it is the least that we can do.

Perhaps next year the people in the local businesses near the Midwest Center will show the difference in their monthly income for August to the Chamber of Commerce. The bean counters might get the idea.
