You know how every so many threads we have a discussion, especially in the rules forum how this or that is broken, and you don't know how to play "X" class as well as I do?

How about we have a site at GenCon where we get together, break out the books, and all play through various scenarios with various character builds that illustrate these various views/issues/problems and bascially have a collective think tank/brainstorm session about all these things and see if we can all come up with a common concensus or solution/ruling for these various discussions?

The only rule being that we MUST behave like ladies and gentlemen towards each other.

Should we do something like this?

Likely that'd need a mini-convention all on its own...or several, perhaps...'cause doing what you suggest (and it's a fine idea, by the way) would wipe out the whole GenCon weekend for the participants, and you still might not finish. :)

I don't think it would work (everyone has different tastes and values; there is no "ultimate consensus" to be had), and I can think of many better uses of my time.

Not that we haven't had these sort of discussions spontaneously as part of a party or get-together... but I don't want to plan for parties, gaming, AND this. :)

I'm with Psion. Not necessarily a bad idea, but I didn't have near enough time to game last time, not to mention socialize or do all the other non-gaming things at GenCon.

Seriously the only people who have to agree are those sittin around the same table or subscribed to the same board/yahoogroup. The rest of us really don't matter.

I seriously doubt anyone outside that experiment ould really listen to the conclusions. Same s on the board.

True. What I am most interested in observing is if more people would agree in a face to face, play out examples, kind of discussion, in comparison to what we see on boards.

This might not be a bad idea, it could make for an interesting event. Have tables for discussion or perhaps a build-a-thon. Build a character from these [books] and see what people make up. I know my friends and I have sometimes done this informally just for fun, build characters of the same class and same level and see how different they are, and explain it either from a metagame standpoint or from a roleplay standpoint. A seminar for this could be fun.
