GenCon Pickup Games (Post and Signup)

Margin Call: Traveller d20

Two games
*Friday*
and
*Saturday*

Time: 2:30 PM-6:30 PM both days
Place: Meet at ENnies booth and find a place to play from there (I will be at the ennies booth 12-2 on Friday and Saturday). At the pickup area most likely, unless it sucks again this year, in which case I will probably resort to my hotel room across the street.
GM: Psion
Game: Traveller d20. There will be some "house rules" used.
Adventure: Margin Call
Description:
Setting - Traveller is set in the far future, in a human dominated interstellar empire. Traveller is largely inspired by classical SF authors such as Piper, Norton, Asimov, Clark, and Niven. This particular game is set in the Domain of Gateway, as described by QLI's Gateway to Destiny book.
Adventure - A lucrative -- if risky -- charter deal falls into the lap of a down-on-its-luck far trader, taking it into the Crusis Margin sector beyond the borders of the Imperium.
Spots: 4-6. Let me know preferred character types when you sign up. Generally, starship crews include pilots, astrogators/computer officers, merchant/trader types, engineers, medics, and grunts, though the pregens overlap these types. 4 players will be considered "critical mass".
Experience Required: Familiarity with D20 system games.

I am going to reserve one spot each day for some folks who have expressed interest but have to get back to me. If I am full up and these people don't get back to me, consider the spots open.

Friday:
1. Flynn (CotI boards)
2. Eltern
3. Ron Vutpakdi (CotI)
4. Chris Treco (?)
5.
6. *reserved*

Saturday:
1. Teflon Billy
2. Buttercup
3. Aaron/Jester47 (as Security Chief 'Roc' Ingersol. ;) )
4.
5.
6. *reserved*

I would also love to play Spycraft, if anyone is up for it.

Update: Character thumbnails.

The following are very general thumbnails of the pregens. Let me know which ones interest you. Please remember that we will have to fill out the four central crew positions first (pilot, astrogator, engineer, and medic).

  1. Streetwise Astrogator/Trader
  2. Fast Talking Pilot and Owner Aboard
  3. Miracle Working Engineer
  4. Vargr Ex-Navy Scounrel / Astrogator
  5. Ex-Army Grunt / Gunner / Demolitions Expert
  6. Ex-Navy Medic and Gunner
  7. Traveling Doctor and Medical Investigator
  8. Muscle-bound engineer and robotics expert
  9. Ex-Navy Mercenary / Gunman
  10. Ex Navy Ace Pilot

only problem is, the chaotic nature of getting them together means you might miss out in the trying. ;)

That's all part of the game :D

Ranger Wickett: I'm interested

Psion and The_Universe: I'm not familiar with either Traveller d20 or d20 Future. Would you rather have someone who knows what's what, or could a new come and play? ;) Really, it's ok if you'd like to only have people experienced with the system, I won't be offended or something silly.

Eltern,

D20 Future just uses the D20 Modern rules...but in the future. Spaceships, robots, and all that jazz.

I'll let Psion fill you in more on Traveller, but essentially it's a futuristic campaign setting using another variant of the D20 rules.

Really, all you need is the ability to quickly get *into* character, and a basic understanding of the D20 rules for my game. Also, it will kinda depend on what your schedule is - I'm not yet sure where and when I'm going to try to run this, but I didn't think it would hurt to announce.

As a rule, my preference for gamers is much more dependent on the person than on their knowledge of any particular rules set. So, if you're clean, friendly, and relatively mature, we're glad to give you a shot. :D

As long as you understand d20, it really shouldn't be a problem. There will be pregenerated characters with effects of feats spelled out. I am planning on activities (and handouts) specifically to teach the players the ins and outs of the game. I realize T20 caters to a sort of limited audience -- Traveller fans who dig d20 -- so I am trying to go out of my way to introduce it to new players. (But with only 4 hours to play, at a minimum, I would hope you are familiar with basic D20 rules.)

Eltern, what's your real name? And any preference on character types, or are you open?

Psion, if it was not for the Booth schedule, I would LOVE to play a space grunt in your game. Alas the schedule:

Saturday

10am to 12pm: Joe Kushner(JoeGKushner), Michael Morris (Spoony Bard)
12pm to 2pm: Alan Kohler (Psion), Richard Miller (Cthulhu's Librarian)
2pm to 4pm: Chris Gath (Crothian), Adam Martin (donadam)
4pm to 6pm: (jester47), Joseph Miller (jaldaen)

Oh well. See ya there!

Aaron.

Something different

Well, I saw Crothian post a non-d20 so I thought I would throw out our demo. Rafael Velez will be running short (read 2-hour) demos of Shades of Earth and Roma Imperious at

11 AM Friday
and
11 AM Saturday

Sign up at the Game Publisher's Association's booth (1233).

If people are interested I am sure he can be persuaded to run more/longer events.

Everyone participating will receive a coupon good for 10% off our books at the Game Publisher's Association's booth (#1233). Also, a limited number of poster maps of the Roman Empire for Roma Imperious as well as some authentic Roman Coins will be available. Swag, free game and something different.

If you can handle d20, our Iridium System should be no problem.

Have fun at the con everyone!

Bill

Psion: Did some research on the Traveller backstory/setting. I'm digging it ;) And yes, I know d20 well, so I'd like to sign up for your Friday game. I get the feeling that "space grunt" will require the least amount of advanced rules knowledge, so I'll go with that, unless you've another suggestion.

The_Universe: Well I know I'm clean, and I like to think I'm friendly and mature, so I guess I fit :) My schedule right now consists of the Epic level party, the ENnies, and the games you see listed in this thread.

Ranger: Jeff, and as long as we're playing "basic" D&D I'm up for whatever is needed for party dynamics.

I have a game ready. It will be standard 3.5 rules, set in my homebrew world. I figured I could run it Friday afternoon, say around 2:30 - 6:30, which would allow plenty of time afterwards for dinner and the Ennies! If you want to play, we'll meet at the Ennies booth around 2:15. I've got a suite, so we can play in my hotel room.

Updated.

I'll check one more time tomorrow morning before we head out. I'll bring signup sheets for these games (except the Wednesday night one, obviously) and blank signup sheets.
