GenCon swag?

devilish

Explorer
Hi all,

Had a blast at my first GenCon this year -- meeting with gamers, playing in
tourneys, visiting the floor.

Only question is, I always hear from the boards about the wondrous
swag that people end up with from going. I came home rather light
and was wondering, was this con light on swag or am I just inexperienced
in finding it?

Yes, I got the neat freebies at the 30th Anniversary party, and got great
miniatures from playing in the Arcana Unearthed tourney (thanks to
Malhavoc and Sean!) but not much else. Just seemed like a gigantic
FLGS to me, except it cost me more because I had to ship
all the stuff home!

Any thoughts/suggestions for the next con?

Thanks,
-D

I thought this was a very good year for swag, ended up with two tote bags, one picked up at the GENCON forum stink, the other for filling out the Ebberron survey after the siminar. Two DC Batman T-Shirts, they were handing them out at the Heroclics area. Wizard's was doing mins, notebook, pencil, and some other stuff. ITC did the lighted six-sided dice for filling out a card. Got the World's largerest Dungeon T-shirt with coupon and purchase of product. Also some other little things, pins and such.

Did you check out the coupon book that came with your on-site bag? Many of the exhibitors had specials going on. You could get a free t-shirt and/or mini for going to the Confrontation/Rackham booth with your coupon. WotC was giving away free laniards (and when those ran out, some new D&D minis and mechanical pencils). There was one company giving away a free die to anyone who came by, and ten free dice to anyone who did a demo of their new game.

Participating in demos is often the best way to get freebies ... the exhibitor gets someone who's tried their game and may buy it (and now has a freebie to remind them of it), and you get a freebie.

Hi Sean, I was tempted to do one thing to you, when I first saw you...like taking that GREAT greyhawk T-shirt you were wearing.

Self-control...self control....*can't you tell, I am a Greyhawk fan...eh?*:o

Next year, I'd hunt swag FIRST as some of the deals were exhausted by the time I went looking for them Saturday.

I found some nice swag on Sunday. Picked up a free Casketworks (the reaper minis catalog). Then some guy was walking around handing out copies of "In the Pit" comic book. Which is based on work found on rpg.net, and seemed even funnier in a comic format.

Got the free Rackham T-shirt and mini from the coupon, and then got another free T-shirt and mini for demo-ing a Confrontation game on Sunday. (double swag)

There's so much MORE I could have gotten! Here's what I did get:

Spycraft T-Shirt & CCG deck
WotC Minis
D&D 30th Anniversary swag (t-shirt, bag, posters, cups)
10d6 from the coupon book
Wizkids Pirate Ship
WatchFarscape.com stuff (buttons, postcards, Peacekeeper symbol sticker)

A friend of mine was swagged a Hackmaster DMG just for looking at the Kenzer booth. And we saw a guy get swagged a World's Largest Dungeon!

So, should someone write up the GenCon Random Swag/Treasure Tables?

(I presume that World's Largest Dungeon would be at 00 on the "Major" item table, because dang man, a $100 gaming book as swag!)
