So my question is this: Since the shield acts as a +1 weapon, what does that mean if I want to upgrade it by adding more magical weapon enhancement? I want +1 Weapon, so...SRD said:Bashing
A shield with this special ability is designed to perform a shield bash. A bashing shield deals damage as if it were a weapon of two size categories larger (a Medium light shield thus deals 1d6 points of damage and a Medium heavy shield deals 1d8 points of damage). The shield acts as a +1 weapon when used to bash. (Only light and heavy shields can have this ability.)
Moderate transmutation; CL 8th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, bull’s strength; Price +1 bonus.
It means that it acts as a +1 weapon of two sizes larger, but you pay for it as an extra +1 cost appended to the rest of the armour-granting portion of the shield.Rae ArdGaoth said:I'm purchasing a rather complicated shield for my two-weapon fighting dwarf. So my question is this: Since the shield acts as a +1 weapon, does that mean its weapon enhancement bonus is effectively +2? Or does it mean that the +1 weapon portion of Bashing doesn't apply, only the increased damage die? Or does it mean that the shield has a +1 weapon bonus already, and to get a +2 weapon bonus I must pay the 6000gp difference? I'm tempted to choose the second option, but I'm not sure.
That's correct--if you also enchant it as a weapon, the first +1 enhancement bonus overlaps and does not stack with the Bashing ability.Rae ArdGaoth said:So getting the Magic Weapon +1 Enhancement does nothing? Or do I skip that and go straight to +2 Magic Weapon Enhancement for an additional 6000gp, because the +1 is already included in the cost of the Magic Shield Ability - Bashing?
