General Discussion

Same things I checked. The question was asked on 3.5ed forums too and mentioned that you could you both as well. But somewhere I heard it was one or another. I am thinking that was in CRPG versions like NWN or something.

I was always thinking it was either or and never had Borric use both and probably should have.

I have not seen anyone try it before, but can you use both Combat Expertise and Power Attack (or Deadly Aim) at the same time taking the penalties for both?

Stacking CE and PA makes plenty of sense to me. I'd agree I don't see anything that makes them exclusive, and there are plenty of other feats which stack penalties (Rapid Shot and Deadly Aim come to mind).

You couldn't do the same with CE and Deadly Aim, though, unless you have a way to be making melee and ranged attacks in the same round, since CE does explicitly say "You can only choose to use this feat when you declare that you are making an attack or a full-attack action with a melee weapon."

Since you're talking about Borric, though, I don't expect that latter part matters, since I don't remember him using ranged attacks very often. :)

Compared to melee, he is not very good at ranged combat.

I think the point is going to be moot, as Borric just took 85 from only one full attack in the last round. He is barely on his feet and and facing two uninjured opponents that have higher AC, probably more HP and he will die next round.

Maybe. I'm thinking Bren made the SR against all of the red demons, so unless they make their DC21 Will Saves they'll be falling down (maybe for a while, they get a new save each round). Kalinn did at least a little damage to all of 'em with her breath weapon, and Bren did decent damage to all of 'em last round with his channel. Drev's pounding 'em to dust.

The black ones might be a little tougher. Bren will channel this next round and heal everyone up at least a little.

Unless you can channel in the current round, it will be too late. Two Black Demons double teaming Borric only need to do 15 damage to knock him out. And looking at their Attack bonus for their primary attack, total defense is not going to help. I am already looking at a replacement character.

Oops - Sorry pm! I was thinking Borric was on the left with Bren and Kalinn. Even channeling in the current round wouldn't help, as Bren's all the way across the way :.-(

Maybe the old fart will make himself useful and get around to channeling some.

It feels like Aradra sent Borric out to his death :(.

Maybe with the 3 of us we can get 1 down, but both is challenging without Daylight or Ardra getting a crit...

Well, you do have an archer that dealt out 115 the previous round. And Daylily can lay the smack down well. If the prone red demon with 4 hp left between Daylily and Borric is killed, Borric can withdraw through friendlies and face only one significant AoO. The red demons need a nat20 to hit Borric. A short sword in the gut doing 1d6+10 is going to be a gamble, but is possible. Even if he drops from that, the demons are going to go full round attacks on the standing opponents first instead of finishing off a bleeding out man. So a next round channel would be able to stand you back on your feet.

So, the fight is survivable. It may be a rotating lead person taking hits and withdraws while a cleric in back channels, but then, you haven't seen the demons bring a healer for their side yet.

Yes, the black ones are nasty compared to the meager red ones.

Since the one Arianna is facing got its sight back, she is going to be in the same situation soon.

They "improved" the top navigation on the board again. Before I go wasting time digging around for it, anyone know off the top of their heads how I get to my new, unread subscriptions now? I used to just have to click on settings. Now settings actually takes me to settings, which is certainly more logical, but kills my method of trying to keep up efficiently with threads I follow.

We've requested a new "Settings" link at the top. For now, you can click your user name (the one at the top) and go to "Subscribed Threads." There will then be a "Settings" link toward the top left that will take you where you want to go.

Another option is to replace everything after 'forum/' in the address line with 'usercp.php' and hit Enter.
