General video game discussion

Arcanum is the most overrated cRPG in the history thereof. Some of the worst combat I’ve ever seen in an RPG, both in turn-based and real-time modes. It had me longing for the sophisticated and entertaining combat of Planescape: Torment. The game was balanced by a tech-hating monkey (or maybe an elf!) - magic is powerful and easy to use, while tech is both underpowered and inconvenient. As a technologist you spend half your time rummaging around in rubbish bins for junk, while wizards can spam their way to victory with first-level spells.

Writing is good and worldbuilding is top-notch, and the plot has some nice twists and turns, but it’s hard to enjoy sometimes. I would actually recommend giving it a go, the folks who love it really love it. But I like the idea of Arcanum far more than I actually like playing it.
This review was clearly written by a magically illiterate, dirt-and-oil covered, stinky dwarf [/elf] :p

Started with sad react, but then remembered that there isn't even any difference between consoles and computers anymore so I had to laugh.
The mere presence of an elf is so inimical to technology that most PCs simply fail to operate in their presence, thus they are limited to consoles - 1st and 2nd gen only. “Ho, Gwarfondel, give me another puff of the halfling’s herb and let us fire up Madden - Second Age. I have procured a vast stash of spicy nacho lembas for our repast”

Madden isn't playable at this point of the technological era. We're either talking about Tecmo Super Bowl or, let's be honest, ideally the Genesis version of NHL 94

Fingers crossed I have found a fix for my DA: Veilguard stuttering issue! When I explained to Google's AI Mode that my BIOS seems too rudimentary to undervolt/underclock my CPU by specific values*, it suggested I go into Windows power management and set the CPU's minimum usage to 80% and the max to 95% (instead of 97% and 100% respectively) as a "soft" underclocking method. That seems to have worked. I've just had two 1-hour+ game play sessions with 0 stutters today. Long may it last, because I am loving this game.

*I can only find one entry that lets me go below the default, and it just has three "Negative" options.

No idea what Jotunnslayer is about or what kind of game it is, but free is free.

Now, I'm in need of some soul searching. Being honest, I don't need a new PC right now. My main laptop runs very well and is more than enough for my needs, and I have a Deck for gaming. I knew that in the future I was aspiring to one of these upcoming Laptops/mini PCs with the midrange Strix Halo chips, or a Steam Machine -I kind of want something that can be put under the TV-. But with two things are kind of pushing me to buy something now. One is that my brother recently got a mini PC with a 6800h and it is very very powerful, run AI locally powerful for a very good price, and knowing that ram prices are skyrocketing and these may not be as cheap ever. In fact it wouldn't be the exact same model, but a very similar one as the one he bought is out of stock now.

Well, I don't know if I should get it because it is a good investment, or I'm just feeling FOMO.
