I played FFXII again. First replay since it came out. Still really good and playing the Zodiac Age version made this time was a nice change.

Now I'm working my way through the end game content of Expedition 33. I really enjoy how combat manages to stay fresh 50+ hours into the game. And it's just so dang wonderous to look at. I can only think of like 2.5 minor changes I would make. Totally deserving of the hype.

I've got Outer Worlds 2 coming as a Christmas gift. I liked the first one and hope the second is able to expand on it.

Also, I totally forgot in all the Game Awards excitement: Temple of Elemental Evil is out on Steam. Has anyone gotten and played it yet?
I played it when it first came out, didn’t finish it though, after leaving the village it very quickly got boring. It tries to be far too faithful to the original module, down to being pretty much plotless. It has a very 1st edition feel, despite not actually using that ruleset.

Personally I thought the village was the most boring part. I'll grant that the tavern, the church, the blacksmith, the druid, and the castle were interesting - at least the first time - but the NPCs in the houses were flat and boring. I had trouble telling them apart. And even with a walkthrough I could never figure out how you were to settle that disagreement over the barn.

And even the interesting NPCs quickly get old on replays; they have a very limited repertoire of things that they say

I guess that just shows that different people like different stuff. I enjoyed conversing with the villagers, who were quite well developed for the time.

Part of it is that I've played through it a few times. They were fun to talk to once or twice, but on repeated playthroughs it gets repetitive. Particularly the barn quest because I had to keep talking them again and again to try and figure out the specific thing the game wanted you to do; I've played the game probabky more than a dozen times and finished the barn dispute maybe once. Plus in the base game it's a pain in the ass to find anything in the town; which means that a lot of the town quests are just a lot of walking around and circling back, not even really interacting with the NPCs
