That's a terrible shame. I just started rereading Flashman's Lady yesterday.

Like you, I've been waiting for the Civil War instalment of the Flashman Papers for years -- decades, actually, since I started reading Flashman in my early teens. Mr American is my all-time favourite novel.

Sad news. All of a sudden we seem to be losing authors we like at a pace. I suppose it is one of the travails of us growing older.

I started reading the Flashman books many years ago after The New Yorked published an admiring review of the then-latest release.

Great stuff. Exotic locales, skullduggery, action, comedy, and sex sex sex -- these books have it all.

If you've never read Flashman, you owe it to yourself to do so.

Damme, no more Flashman! No more Pyrates! No more 1970s Three Musketeers! :(

I am incalculably saddened by this news...
