Im reading up on mounts, and acording to the monster manual a riding dog is a medium animal, with a light load of <=100lbs but in the goods and servises table on pg 108 of th PHB a military sadles is 30, or even 40lbs (40 if you need to use an exotic saddle). Thats a huge saddle for a lil critter. I just dont see how equipment for a dog weighs the same as that for a horse.

In my opinion you can use rule of medium to small size equipment. Equipment for small size character weights 1/4 as much as for medium sized ones, so transformation from large to medium size 40/4 is 10 lb. You can also check PHB where the characteristics for armour for large size are written.
