Can half-halflings be called three-quarterlings?

Elves are a core race, so orcs and lings should be too!

so anything that requires a second of expalnation should be chopped down?

Not at all, but succinctness does have its advantages.

Where would that leave Eladrin and other goofy races to people who've never played the game before. It takes more explanation I think to break down the branches of elf hood than to expalin what a half elf is.

And this is a fantastic example of how a name can convey a great deal, or very little at all.
