Getting back into the games

So it's been a few years since I've last played. I played online, I ran games, did a whole bunch... but then left my group and haven't played for about 4 years (I think). Since then, 5th edition D&D was released, the industry continued to develop, ways to play have proliferated, and now I feel a bit lost.

Any recommendations for someone who wants to get involved again?

Buy the starter set. Or hit the local game shops to do pickup games.

One great problem I have is the lack of a block of 3-5 hours to dedicate to the game at any one stretch. That's why play-by-post has always resonated.
