Getting Rid of Scribe Scroll & Familiars

I've heard of houserules where Wizards and Sorcerers drop Summon Familiar in return for a d6 Hit Die, and that sounded perfect, to me. I never liked WotC's weird fixation on pets as class features, and that d4 HD is just brutal.

Yeah, I have toyed with the idea of pushing the wizard even further with d6 HD/level. At first level these revised wizards get only one bonus feat, to be chosen between Arcane School Specialization, Gain Familiar, or any metamagic or item creation feat.

A sorcerer rebuilt along the same lines could also get 1d6 HD and no automatic familiar -- they would need to use a feat.
